I'm from Mississippi - I have a right to be worried.

Hey guys please chance me and ill chance you back!

(I'm posting this again becasue i added a few colleges)

Im from mississippi and we're not known to have the best education system.

Applying: UT-Austin (1st choice), Baylor University, Vandy (school sent someone 2 yrs ago with a 31 ACT), Tulane, UVA, University of Florida

State: Mississippi

High School: I go to a public school in MS thats not very competitive but the school offers a good amount of AP classes that are taught by very qualified teachers.

Rank: 2/~150 (salutatorian)

GPA: 4.0

Senior Courses: AP Calculus AB, AP English 12, AP Microecon, AP US government, College Algebra, Anatomy/Physiology, Ceramics I, will dual enroll in University of Southern Miss to take Calculus I starting January

AP Tests: Psychology - 4, US History - 4, World History - 4, (AP Scholar Award) Will take Biology, Enviornmental Science, and US Government during senior year

ACT: 31...

SAT II: US History - 740, Bio-E - 650 (I know bad), World History - 760

ECs: Varsity Soccer and Cross Country, Captain for Soccer team, National Honor Society, Beta Club, lots of community Service for my church.

Ill be salutatorian and hopefull by March ill be moved up to Valedictorian depending on the final ranks.

I want to do pre-med and ill major in biology or history. My first choice is UT-Austin and im applying for the College of Natural Sciences as first choice and the Liberal Arts College for major in History as second choice.

2 Recommendations: Great (idk becasue i dont know what im comparing against) but my teachers didnt show me what they wrote for the commonapp becasue it was online, but they had to give me the paper one that i had to mail. So, i took a peek and they were great (again havent seen a college recommendation letter so dont know what to compare it to)

bump..........

Well first off I just want to say best of luck to you as a fellow Mississippi student.

I think you have good stats, especially with your GPA and class rank.

I'd say UT Austin is a high match. You definitely wouldn't have any trouble if you were in-state, but being OOS is the only reason I could see you not getting in. Same with UVA and Florida. And I'd say you're in for sure at Baylor and should be at Vanderbilt.

thanks dude really reallly realllllly appreciate it...

harlequinboy where in MS are you from?

oh and i just found out there are 232 people in my graduating class...so im 2/232

I'm from Clarksdale in the Delta.

Anyway if you remember to, you should post back with your results!

As a Mississippi applicant with a 31 ACT composite score, you should do very well with colleges & universities in the Northeast US & on the West coast. You should be admitted to all of your schools to which you applied--although UVa. will be the most difficult.

You should be competitive at most of the schools. If I were you, I would focus on the Miss culture in my personal statement.

Tulane--accepted
University of Florida--accepted
Baylor--accepted
Vandy--Most likely
UT Austin--Most likely
UVA--likely

UVA is the most competitive school, the second ranked public school in the nation
