I just brought in the mail. There's a large, rigid white envelope from USC Admissions addressed to my daughter. I don't DARE open it, of course. I wish she would hurry and get home! :)

My biggest concern is whether we can afford USC. I would hate for her to be burdened with loans before even getting into the OT grad program there. Does financial aid come out in early April?

Either way, this a wonderful accomplishment for her! Best wishes to everyone else waiting for the news!

Well, she finally got home. I wrapped the packet in her USC sweatshirt she bought last August when we visited. But…alas, my daughter is nothing like her mama. She doesn’t wear her emotions on her sleeve. Arrrgghh.

The first thing that came out of her mouth was: “Did we get the financial aid, too?” She’s rightfully concerned with the cost. But, she has two other concerns:

1.) The area in Los Angeles. She’s not too thrilled with the 'hood. ;)

2.) The fact that the Occupational Therapy program is over on the Health Sciences campus. (Although I told her she doesn’t even apply to this until after first semester and there will be gen. ed classes on the College Park campus, as well. Not to mention her dorm and other activities!)

3.) I have a feeling that since acquiring a boyfriend this year, her college-destination plans have been modified a wee bit. I’m getting the feeling that she’s not so sure that she wants to be down in LA now. Sigh.

Well, as she said, let’s wait until the financial aid package arrives. My husband said that if this is someplace she ***reeeeally ***wants to attend, we can try our best to make it happen. A year ago it was at the top of her list. I’ll report back when all is said and done! :)

Oh no–I didn’t mean to say she would put off college. No way! And he’s expressed that if she wants to go across the country, he would encourage her. What I meant is that she might not be as keen on being down in Southern CA as she was prior to meeting him. On the other hand, I think it also has to do with the surrounding area near USC. It might be because she recently enjoyed walking around San Luis Obispo near Cal Poly and she liked the small-town feel. Hey, this was a kid who was talking about going to the *city *of Boston for school over a year ago! I give up! :)

That would be crappy to see her put off college because of a boyfriend, especially one that is so new. Doors have hinges because they were meant to be opened and shut. Financially there are so many options for aid I am sure that if she wants it enough and is given a little nudge from her parents then she’ll be in a great place! …a place that will brighten her future**.

I love your will power 2leashes.
My mom opened up my sisters acceptance letter to her college.
She claimed “she thought it was junkmail.”
My sister is still mad at her for it.
So good job!
I still love my mom, though. :-)

Tell her that it’s very safe on campus and that the Department of Public Safety does a good job of keeping all the kids intact and making sure they get back to their bed sometime before morning. Plus, check out Campus Cruiser.
Classes at the Health Sciences campus are generally upper division classes and she won’t have them until her junior and senior years.
