I'm applying to Andover this year, and I wrote my essay on not going to college. Literally. I just sat down and listed the reasons (hopefully at least moderately eloquently) that college is essentially useless.

Do you guys think that my essay topic will hurt my chances of getting in? Seriously I think that miiiight have been a bad idea.

I have a 4.0 GPA and got a near perfect SSAT score, so the admissions officers will know I'm probably capable of doing well in college.

So, what do you guys think? Was writing an essay on why college is crappy the wrong way to go?

I think Andover and at least one other “related” school likes students who question assumptions, so your questioning the virtue and value of a college education is probably right up their alley. I’d say you will likely stand out among applicants. Good Luck if Andover is your first choice.

Thanks for appreciating my terrible irony. I know, I created the account before I wrote the essay (I wrote it two days before the deadline.) I’ve always really wanted to go to an ivy league (who doesn’t? well, apparently not me now…) but now recently I’ve been questioning that.

Is anyone willing to read my essay to see if it may be a bit too “strong”. I would love that. Thanks :)

Pm it to me too if you want, I’m happy to read it. Although there’s not much point in stressing about it now, it done and too late to change anything.

They wouldn’t take it bad imo, they’d like it even. People who aren’t afraid to take risks. And if you backed up your essay with some pretty good points then it wouldn’t be bad at all.
I’d be interested to read your essay, or explain why you think college is useless. xD
