What the hell!!! When I applied for cal grant way back in like feb or something, I put in all of UC’s I applied for because I didn’t know which one I got into yet and where I would ultimately go. And now I BARELY realized that apparently…the award is directed towards UCLA -_______-. I didn’t even make it there. So I barely changed it back to UCSD just now. I hope this won’t mess up my financial aid package. Ugghh…I still don’t know why they would randomly pick UCLA out of all the schools I put down…freakin…><".

So right now on my awards page, it says cal grant is unconfirmed, probably b/c of the UCLA mishap -_- ■■■. Please tell me it will be confirmed soon.

Ok I just remembered something that freaked me out even more. AHHHH!!! You know we are supposed to accept/decline awards and loans and stuff right? Well when I was doing this (I didn’t realize my calgrant was wack at that time), my calgrant said unconfirmed and it woudn’t let me accept it. So I thought (at that time) that the calgrant would just eventually confirm and i’ll get the money. So I accept other loans and awards and clicked submit! So NOW I realize that it probably means that I probably should have catched the calgrant error AND wait until it’s confirmed before submitting.

@101921: I thought the same thing -_-
I guess its time to call the financial aid office and see whats up --

I just checked my UCSD account where I can accept or decline financial aid awards and I noticed that it said this: “Unconfirmed Cal Grant awards are pending information from the California Student Aid Commission”
so when they get that info, I’m assuming we’re ok…

i have no clue what u guys are talking about… this thread is about incoming freshman financial aid.

anywho, i finally received my financial aid,
i got:
the Academic Comp Grant $750
Cal Grant B $1551.00
Pell Grant $5550.00

But… as i expected i didnt get the
blue and gold oppertunity plan(which was worth atleast 10k)
ucsd financial aid fund (worth 14k)
workstudy (worth 3k)

obviously i cant pay for tuition only with the aid i recieved so what the financial aid office did for me is… they jacked up the loan they are going to give me.
direct subsidized loan $3500
direct parent loan plus around 15k
unsubsidiezed loan is $2000

this is WAAAYY too much loans for me, if loans are the only way for me to go college… what am i suppose to do?. sigh im really hoping the appeal gets approved cuz this is just ridiculous.

Total PANIC MODE.
why is this happening to me~~~~~
why does the world hate meeeee~~~
ughhhhhhh
sobs

so what are some of the other guys updates? any good news from the financial aid office?

@graciee, hey thanks for talking about this problem because if it weren’t for you, I might have STILL not noticed it ><". I wonder if UCSD will go back to fix this even though we technically “accepted” our package. Ehh, if nothing comes up these next few days, then I will call them.

@xxmsp91
My aid is very similar to yours. If they really dont approve your appeal, i would switch over to cal grant A.

Also, what exactly is the Blue and Gold opportunity plan? If it was over 10k, you wouldnt need to take any loans at all if your appeal is approved. Was there a seperate section on your preliminary about it?

About confirming the cal grant, the representative i talked to said that they do that themselves. So you submit your application without accepting it i believe.

UCSD changed me from Cal Grant B to Cal Grant A, because they have problem with their budget. They said it will be better for me. You guys can ask for Cal Grant A too.

CalGrant A is probably better if I’m not getting a UCSD grant. But if my appeal goes through, i probably would want to switch back to cal grant B

seungnarm:
did you get your aid???
I called them again and they said that I was already accepted as financial aid recipient and that I didn’t need to do the financial aid mandatory checklist thing.
So I was waiting for them to send me the financial aid award letter or mail but I haven’t received it yet…

When did they say thier going to reveiw your appeal, I called the financial aid ofice and they said they will review in september. Also they said if you were a late acceptance they would most likley forgive you. Also the financial aid office told me alot of people messed up this year their are alot of appeals, when you are a new student they sometimes are more forgiving as well. Also from conversating with the FAO they said it may be best to apply for the parent plus loan because if they do approve your appeal they will automatically reduce the loan. My offered loan was 13,540.00 for example if they approve the appeal it would be only a 300.00 loan and the rest would be the UC blue and gold plan. I am sitting on pins and needles I am going to call on August just to see whats going on because I rather try to stay on top of it as much as possible. I am just hoping they will approve my appeal next year when I apply I will do everything possible to make sure this never happens again.

Okay, so I just got off the phone with them and they said that almost all Cal grants are currently unconfirmed and will be until mid August.

Awww, no problem 101921 Believe me, I was freaking out about this, and I needed to get some confirmation from CC that I wasn’t the only one with the problem ahaha

@AndrewL: the blue and gold oppor. program is any combination of grants that pays for your systemwide fees if your family earns less than 60K per year.

Ok, so webgrant sent me an email yesterday saying that my cal grant A is now officially confirmed and awarded. However I don’t see any changes on the ucsd website…so I’m assuming that it will take a while for ucsd people to update it.

@Graciee & Andrew, I hope webgrant at least confirmed your grants as well! [:

Yeah, I got that email from the Cal Grant people too. Thanks for wondering!! <33 loll

Andrew: yes :)

"The [Blue and Gold] plan combines all sources of scholarship and grant awards you receive (federal, state, UC and private) to count toward covering your fees. If, for example, you receive Pell and Cal Grants and private scholarships that don’t fully cover your fees, UC grant money will make up the difference. "

"Thank you for emailing the UC San Diego Financial Aid Office.

This is currently our peak processing time, and we are also experiencing staff vacancies and mandated furloughs due to state budget issues. As a result, it could take up to five working days to respond to your email.

Your patience in waiting for a reply is sincerely appreciated. We are working hard on your behalf!

Remember to check your UCSD email box and your Financial Aid Checklist on TritonLink throughout the summer."

I guess this explains all the delays and trouble calling them

Same predicament for me I turned my documents in two months late though, waaay late. I sent the appeal letter, their reply: Thank you for your appeal. We will retain it and review appeals in early September.

Isn’t that so late though? And I must say, reading a lot of these posts have given me the hope that the priority funding that I have lost will be won back again. Crossing my fingers though, I’m still scared to death.

On a side note, I can’t believe we weren’t notified of the requested documents and impending deadline through our regular e-mails! What the frick man.

(I have tooootallly learned my lesson, and this will never, ever happen again)
