Im in deep doo doo with the financial aid. (must appeal)

Also, xxmsp91, did your appeal get approved?!

@rainfloweroblong

nope. i did receive the official awards, but they took away more than half of what they said they would give me in the preliminary award notice and raised the loans up to cover my tuition… like everyone eles, it looks like we’re gonna have to wait through early september to find out about our appeal approval (or denial :[ knocks on wood)

i never thought this thread would be this popular. apparently ucsd students arent the best keepers of deadlines HAH…-haha awkward laugh :P

I think everyone’s appeal letter included not getting an email (:

Same here, especially the parent plus loan. It doubled :confused: That, and my Work Study and UCSD Grant were taken away. I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t get accepted, I think I won’t be able to attend in that case :(

Curious. Will you guys be accepting the Parent PLUS Loan?

for now yes. i hear that u can cancel the loan anytime as long as u dont decline it right away.

Thanks. How did you go about accepting the loan? There was not a select tab next to it when I received my financial aid award.

When do we have to accept it by?

@xxmps91 oh i thought it was the other way, that we can get loans even if we decline it initially… no? don’t quote me on that but yeah i heard something like it from the forum.

@rainfloweroblong
It varies depending on when you were given your official award. It’s usually 2 weeks from that date.

@yunjh2725
I think it can go both ways. You can accept an award and decline it later or decline an award and accept it later.

I would also like an answer to AdrenalineJunkie’s question as well.

@AdrenalineJunkie: I have a pdf saved about the PLUS loan and this is what it says

“2010‐2011 Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan Application Instructions
Please refer to your student’s TritonLink Award Notification to determine how much you may be eligible to borrow. To ensure that the Parent PLUS loan funds are available by the registration fee deadline, we encourage you to submit your application at least 3 weeks prior to the deadline date.
FIRST TIME FEDERAL DIRECT PARENT PLUS LOAN BORROWERS:
1.
Request your Department of Education Parent PIN, if you do not have one.
Please note the Parent PIN is not the same as the Student PIN. The Parent PIN acts as the electronic signature for the FAFSA and the Electronic Master Promissory Note. You may obtain your PIN at [The PIN Web Site - Federal Student Aid](http://www.pin.ed.gov)
2.
Complete a Direct Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN) if you are a first time Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan borrower. The MPN is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the Department of Education. It also provides you with detailed explanation of the terms and conditions of your loan(s). If borrowing for more than one student, you’ll need to complete a separate MPN for each. To complete the MPN:
•
Go to http://StudentLoans.gov .
• Click on the green “Sign In” box in the “Manage My Direct Loan” box in the upper left‐hand corner.
• Enter the parent’s social security number, first two characters of the parent’s last name, parent’s date of birth, and Dept. of Ed. Parent PIN (see #1 above).
• Click on “Complete MPN”.
•
Click on “Parent PLUS” and continue with all instructions until you receive the “Thank you for submitting the MPN” message.
Additionally, submit the 2010‐2011 Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request Form to our office, by mail or fax. Important Note: To avoid processing delays, ensure both the borrower and student information you provide on the request form is an exact match to the information submitted on your Direct Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note”

Whats the “registration deadline date”

yes, I would also like to know about this registration deadline date.

And what if the parent plus loan doesn’t get approved because you parent has bad credit? The website says there are other options, but doesn’t really go into them. Vague-ity vague, UCSD :P

im getting confused. from what i kno, u can accept the loans and decline later but u cant decline it rite away and try to get it back. im not really sure now.

I am freaking out. I don’t know what to do. I want it to be early September already. Please please please please.

I find it best for me to try not to think of it. It’s out of your control. Do you have Cal Grant A currently?

Question. I called and had the FAO request to change me Cal Grant B to Cal Grant A. How long is the process? How long does it take for it to change to Cal Grant A?

Thanks!

im keeping my mind off of this by letting STACRAFT 2 rot my brain. MUAHAHHAHAHAHAHA ZERG IS NUMBAH ONE!!! :D:D:D:D

jokes aside. whats the difference between cal grant b and cal grant a?

I am in the same situation. I emailed the Financial Aid Office and they replied saying that I need to send in a late funding appeal, which will be evaluated in early September. Also, they told me that my awards are done and is available to be viewed. My aid includes: Cal grant A, Pell Grant, Academic Competitiveness Grant, and loans (Parent PLUS and Stafford Subsidized/Unsubsidized). The total gift aid I received is about $3000 less than the amount in the preliminary award notification.
I’m planning to appeal but I do not know if it is worth it. For example, if my appeal goes through, will they change my Cal Grant A back to Cal Grant B and only give me back certain grants?
If I file my appeal and (hopefully) it is approved, will the Financial Aid Staff add onto the aid that is already given to me or will they take away my current gift aid and replace it with my preliminary aid?
