So recently, my sister got letters from UC schools. She has a 3.4 GPA and 1560 on her SAT. So she just got a rejection letter from UC davis, which I could understand. It's pretty hard to get into. Then she got a rejection from UCSC. That didn't make sense because I got into UCSC with a 3.1 GPA. And then she just got a message saying that she didn't even send her SAT scores to any of the schools!

It's so late now that I have no idea what to do. I feel like I completely failed as an older sister with more experience to help her.

What can she do now? Should she appeal? We haven't got an rejection letter from UCR.

Should she just apply for University of Nevada Reno since their application deadline is on June 1st?

I feel like everything is screwed up really bad and I don't know what direction I should help her take...

Please, I really need advice. Please no trolls. I'm feeling really down right now...

First of all, have your sister log into her college board account and it will show you where the scores were sent. She also should have been able to see on the school portals whether all of the documents are there or not

Also, just because you got into UCSC with a 3.1 does not guarantee that a 3.4 ensures admission.

Call UCR or check their portal to see whether they have the SAT scores

I just checked and she did not send her scores to any of the schools she applied to. I have no idea what to do at this point…Should I just call the school monday?

I believe the University of Oregon has a very late application deadline and your sister’s SAT scores and GPA are basically in the right range for Oregon.

Do not be so hard on yourself, this is in no way your fault. Your sister should have been doing the applying and just asking you for advise now and then. If your parents are not able to do it, you should have a serious talk with your sister on taking responsibility for her life. Not sending her SAT scores to the universities she applied to is not a minor oversight since along with GPA it is what colleges primarily use to make decisions on applications. Making sure that was done was her responsibility, not yours’. I know you want to help your sister, which is commendable, but she has to take the lead in exploring options like UNR or U of O and not just let you take care of it.

There probably is not much you can do if UCR does not allow her to still send in her scores. Her other option is community college. I know it may not sound ideal, but out of state tuition can be costly, and she has probably missed most deadlines for scholarships. The California Community system has a great TAG program if she really wants to go to UCD. This basically says that after 60 transferable units, some of which are required such as english and math, and a 3.2 g.p.a (3.3 for engineering) she is guaranteed an admission. Other campus such as Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, San Diego, Irvine, Merced and Riverside all offer a similar program. I am a current UCD student, and I would say it would be worth the wait!

Okay, thanks. I’m going to try Oregon. Yeah, my sister and I are first generation students, so my parents aren’t completely aware of the difficulties.
And unfortunately, community college isn’t an option. My parents have a weird view on community college.
I actually wanted to attend one so I could transfer to a UC but they said I needed to just finish schooling here…

I just called UCR and they said it would be a good idea to appeal.
