Also, I am working extremely hard on my essays.

Your low test scores are a blessing in disguise. This school would only ruin your life and leave you feeling bitter about the choices you made as a 17 year old for the rest of your life.

Do not listen to UR Defect. He apparently had a bad experience at Richmond before transferring to a large state university (if I remember correctly).
My son is a sophomore at Richmond and has loved it from day one. I know quite a few current students and they all seem to be very happy.

Your low math score might be a problem. However, if you can raise that to the mid 600's, I think you would have a good chance.

Good luck.

With all due respect sunny2, just because you don't agree with URDefect doesn't mean that people should not listen to him. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's wonderful that your son is happy there. Just as he is happy, others may not feel the same way about it. The beauty of CC is that a parent/prospective student can be enlightened by ALL posts and can draw a well informed picture of a campus with its negatives as well as its positives. Don't you agree?

Yeah it's tough to balance out all the pros/cons, but at least I am hearing about them. I have a very difficult time listening to UR Defect, not because I am in denial, but because of the fact that he/she HATES it, so opinions may be somewhat faulty in opposition of Richmond. If he/she only stayed there for one year, then maybe h/s didn't give it a fair chance. Either way, i do like nysmile's opinion because he/she is basing it off several people that attending/visited there and is at least honest without completely distorting the truth. No offense to anyone here, but it is VERY important to take each opinion with a grain of salt considering the bias. I think that it's best to get opinions from people that are currently attending there...

Emp- boost that SAT/ACT score... I would aim for slightly over the 50% range of each score to better your chances...
SAT Critical Reading + Math 1210 - 1350
SAT Critical Reading 590 - 680
SAT Math 600 - 680
SAT Writing 600 - 700
SAT Total 1820 - 2020
ACT Composite 28 - 30

So we're talking like SAT ~1300-1350 or ACT 29-30 should be a comfortable range, but the higher, the better.

jckund, Your post must be reflective of the fact that you are a very smart young man. In order for anyone to make a wise decision, it must be made by listening to many different points of view. In my opinion, to disregard an opinion because you don't agree with it is a sign of narrow mindedness. The college search process can be a very stressful time and I applaud you for trying to get as much information as you can on the colleges on your list.
Do you know of anyone from your area that is attending U of R? If so, I recommend contacting them and arrange a 2 night visit on campus. Again, in my opinion, it's best to visit this way rather then going through the admission's office and visiting with their representatives. Visiting the way I suggest will give you a more balanced, unbiased, and reality based experience because your acquaintance or friend is not trying to sell you on the school, but rather allowing you to experience the campus life on a typical weekend.

Unfortunately, I do not. Nobody from recent years at my HS currently attends Richmond, although several have gotten denied.

Too bad. Maybe if you and your parents go down for a visit, ask them to go back to the campus with you at night. Walk around at night and stop into a coffee house. Have your parents stay there while you walk around a bit. Listen to conversations and see if you notice a difference in the feel of the campus at night as opposed to the day when kids are walking around. I know that it will take some guts to do this on your own but it will give you a "real life" experience on the campus. Maybe you can take a friend from your high school with you if you decide to try this. It's very important to not only see the campus during a tour but also to experience it on a typical night.
