I'm Iranian-American is that good or bad?

So if white and east asian are bad and black/latino are good where does that leave middle easterners in terms of help with college apps?

You are considered white. Any benefit or detriment you may receive are because you are of an immigrant family.

Aw crap. So I would just put white on my applications? (i've never seen an application before I'm still a junior)

My parents were both born in Iran? Is that good? How would the colleges even know?

You (and I) are both Caucasian. Iranians are classified as Caucasian.

you're Iranian too or another type of Caucasian?

Do immigrant parents help?

that depends...are you from georgia lol. i know a persian named arya from my school--dunno if it's a common name or w\e

Haha no, I'm from Los Angeles. It's not that common, probably as common as the name Holden.

But I wanna know about immigrant parents, whether it helps or not.

It depends if they (your parents) are wealthy or poor immigrants, and most importantly if they are educated immigrants or not. Many immigrants from the mideast are very well off. Many are not. What colleges care about is whether or not you come from an environment where you are disadvantaged in some way. The state of being an immigrant, all other things left unconsidered does not hinder or help you. Things to consider for immigrants:

Race
Economic Situation of Family
Education of Parents

You are put in the same box as whites, so that isn't too important. Are you going to need financial aid? This could hurt you. Are you the first person in your family to go to college? That would help you.

One of my parents have a masters and the other a bachelors and they're both pretty well to do. My dad being in the top income percentile actually.

Both of them however are immigrants. Oh well I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks for answering.

^ My personal opinion is that you wouldn't get a boost in admissions, in the same way that me with my (Asian) immigrant parents will not get a boost.

Being Asian or White doesn't mean it's "bad" for college admissions. It's just that URMs have it so good that it seems bad in comparison. URMs aside, you have as good a of a chance of getting in just as any other applicant.
