I know that Middle Easterners (Iranians in particular) are supposed to list themselves as "Caucasian" since, well, the term was original used for people from the Caucasus region, but is there any disadvantage to listing yourself as such? We all know that race DOES play a small, itty bitty, tiny whiney role in the admissions process so did I weaken my app by listing myself as Caucasian? I've constantly heard "list yourself as 'Other: Persian'" or whatever but I applied for Persian-related scholarships so do you think that's enough for the adcom to realize what race I am?

Put: Other: Persian. Caucasian has come to mean white to many, plain and simple.

haha, way to read the OP!

I put White/Caucasian on all of my applications and got into virtually all of them. The impact of race is vastly overstated.

Amen, Warbler.

It is so frustrating to me to read such posts from [Yoyomang] applicants whose families apparently immigrated to the USA releatively recently. Yes, race ethnicity is a unwieldly matter in America, so I don't entirely blame them for their oddball statements.
