well...are they? furthermore, does being one improve your chances of getting into college?

well...are they? furthermore, does being one improve your chances of getting into college?

also, what schools have large iranian populations?

nope......

They are considered minorities, but not underrepresented minorities. It's Asian, which is sometimes an overrepresented minority (at california and prestigious schools especially)

If you're talking in terms of college admissions, they're about as prominient as Asians and Indians (not native americans). Just because your skin's got a little melanin doesn't make you URM.

so on the common app, should I check "Asian" or other and write down Iranian?

Im Iraqi, you would classify yourself as : OTHER, unles there is not other then go with asian.

Iranian is classified as caucasion/white. The same holds for Iraqi and all other descendents of the middle-east and north africa.

well i guess if your mulicultural its other, or you get to pick. They arnt gona come at you with pitchforks just because you selected asian or other b/c your iranian.

Actually, if you use your Iranian background/culture in your essays to tell about yourself, you will be set apart and sought after. The one girl who was admitted to Harvard last year from my D's school used her Iraqi heritage inher essays and got admitted when students with much higher stats who where Chinese descent or white did not.

Yeah I thought Middle Eastern people were considered white.

No, middle eastern is considered Asian (except for Egypt which is African)

funny you mentioned it quilt, my common app essay is about my experiences in Iran so selecting "Asian" or "Caucasian" would be out of the question. For now, I'm sticking with Other: "Iranian" and hope my essay, SAT scores, and my high school's prestige can erase my horrible GPA

So Egyptians, Lybians, Morroccans, etc (people from North Africa) are considered African-Americans? I thought they were considered white. What about North African Berbers?

It's really grey when you get into the North-African region. I mean, I'm african-american but I don't consider a Libyan to be in the same group as me. In college admissions they are usually considered white but technically they are african-americans aren't they? Yes, thus why the grey area

Now I am really confused. Is gray spelled "grey" or "gray?"

either way is acceptable, I just prefer it with an e.

i am iranian and I put: Other - Iranian on the commonapp

celebrian: you are quite simply incorrect. for god's sake, iran shares a root with the word aryan!

Iranian=white
