Hi everyone;]
I'm attending West high school in Utah now.
I'm an asian and I've been in U.S. for over 2years.
getting in to Ivy was the biggest dream over my entire life.
And my main goal is to go to the Havard Law school
So I'm trying to be very selective on my schedule.
here's my schedule for the first semester.
1. Spanish 1
2. Reading 2
3. Biology
4. Geometry honors
5. Concert Band
6. Language arts 9
7. Mandarin Chinese
8. Geography for life.

I just graduated from ESL program and my average GPA in jr. high was above 3.8 ( I can try harder than that)
I know I don't have a lot of honors or AP classes because my English is not perfect yet.
but I'm willing to take summer schools to get in to higher classes next year.

so what I want to ask is,

Is it going to help me that I'm taking two language classes? ( which means I should be speaking 4languages by the time I graduate from the high school )

what kind of classes are going to help me?

how much of GPA do I need to get?(on 4.0 scale)

Anything else you want to say?

I don't know much obout getting ready for colleges so you guys gotta help me out D: !!

well u seem to be rele ambitious if ur posting in this forum in only ur freshman year. i would recommend focusing on one subject and a couple of acitivies your high school career. for example, if u excel at math, join the math team, become captain, score 800 on math section of SATs. if u wanna go to harvard law, considering joining the debate team, or mock trial club. academics wise, harvard law only accepts the best. even a 4.0 GPA and a 2400 on the SAT wont guarantee u a spot. since ur english is bad, like u said, it might be a struggle.

Huckit, I think you need to do some research of your own ;). Law school isn't until after undergrad

I'm just a freshman who's dying to get in to Ivy.

This sentence is just wrong in itself. You are just a freshman, enjoy high school. There are still four years left before you graduate. Remember that Ivy League is just a sports league.

Quasi-perfect.

[/quote]
The most challenging curriculum.

Not really.

Now, peruse the entire CC forum and you will have some kind of understanding of what you will need to have. Then, wait 3 years before you post here again

Do you have a green card? If not, then your chances are slim because international admits are low. There is no Harvard Law for undergraduates, as mentioned by dooit. I don't know about your EC's, but those are a big part, along with essays and concrete SATs and SAT IIs.

"I'm just a freshman who's dying to get into Ivy"

I don't think this sentence is quite right. Perhaps this is what you meant:

"I'm just a freshman who's dying to get into a college that is the right fit for me, so obviously i just don't want to randomly apply to all the name-brand ivies because they're all so different and they can't all possibly be good fits for me."

It's wonderful to see someone who realizes that getting your stats ready for college starts your freshman year--not your sophomore year.

Here's some good starters:

GET INVOLVED.
-play sports, at least 2 or more
-be in a school drama production
-join clubs, try to be an officer or elected position
-student government

MAKE RELATIONSHIPS WITH TEACHERS, especially those who are good at writing or teach subjects that interest you.

It's never too late to start studying for the SAT/ACT

Visit Colleges, talk to professors, try to sign up at a local college to do some research.

Maintain a 3.85-4.0 GPA unweighted.

Your SAT score is going to need to be around 2260-2400, ACT 33-35

Service hours!

Take a vacation somewhere interesting, it may inspire you.

the most important--have fun in highschool. I know many brilliant people who wasted their highschool careers at home studying.

and if you don't get into harvard, remember, the odds were never in your favor, or anyone else's for that matter.

IF u wanna get into a ivy u have to work really hard...im not even aiming that hi as a ivy but i have some hi standards on my list of colleges i want to get into! im also doing the whole get into good clubs...do a lot of service hour things...to pm if u want ne suggestions b/c im doing everything people do to get into ivys to get into average school and i tottally dream about getting into it and im only a year older then u much closer in age then most people in this group

MeatMountain: has it ever occured to you that some ppl work hard, get involved and do service hours because they like to do se, and not only to get into a good college?
if you're an active, dedicated person then your stats will "get ready" on their own and you'll only need to start worrying about college in your junior year.

jeez i didn't even bother with uni stuff seriously until like end of grade 11

I suggest you don't fuss over harvard. Or you'll end up like one of them rejects onthe harvard board crying over how they spent their entire high school career trying to please harvard, only to get rejected.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to get into a ivy at a young age. However sylee there are several things you need to keep in mind.
(1) College is not the end of life. College is the only the start to your life, therefore if you dont get into any ivy you should not be too disappointed.
(2) Enjoy high school awhile maintain a good GPA.
(3) Get involved with activities you LOVE, not what you think is good for college.
(4) Improve your English skills, make at least a 650 on SAT verbal.
(5) An ivy education is not as magical as you or your parents think.

You're only a freshman (and I can say that now, since I'm a sophomore...:D). Trust me, a lot will change this year. You end up doing things you never planned, or dropping stuff that you've thought out. Just do your homework and get good grades, maybe do some EC's. You'll be fine.

Are you not Chinese? Because if you are, taking Chinese in school is a bit shifty.

you get into an ivy by being an overly obsessed high school student just like 99% of the kids on this board trying to get into ivys. we will all tell you that you are only a freshman, but i knew what school i wanted to go to freshman year. i mean everyone has a different path to the ivy thats the glory of indiviualism. admissions people are not looking for a kid that fits a formula. they are looking for a special student that has her own fingerprint. in high school be yourself and get involved in clubs/activities you enjoy. work hard in classes. and study. the rest should fall into place. if its meant to be, its meant to be.

From what I can tell, the biggest problem might be that your English may not be able to match the rest of the Ivy-league applicants (and it has nothing to do with you, just the fact that you didn't come to America early enough).

Take all the AP and honors classes you can (and get over a 4.0 GPA)

If you're chinese, taking Chinese in high school is a waste of time (and may lower your GPA)

Oh yeah and you don't go to Harvard LAW School right after you graduate from high school
