Wow. These Cornell kids (I'm assuming at least) are d.i.c.k.s These posts are RIDICULOUS. Jay 1020..just...wow.

^^ What are YOU talking about, Jay1020 is a realist. You will not get into Cornell with a 3.1, his GPA and Act is well below the average. It seems like everyone thinks that because Cornell is the "easiest" Ivy that they should apply just for "the heck of it."

No. All I'm saying is that you guys don't have to be complete jackasses to this kid who wants to apply to a school that he thinks he might have a shot at.

Does the title of the thread read: "Ah, What the heck." He's not saying he's just doing it for fun. The title specifically mentions that he's trying it out knowing that the chances might not be particularly good.

And psh. Everyone needs to get off their high horse. Cornell (of all schools) is NOT that hard to get into.

Tell that to the extremely qualified students who were rejected or deferred ED.

Look. People are just being realistic here. The applicant has a shot, as do all applicants, but he/she either needs to develop their interest in the hotel industry, figure out that they really want to be a writer, or show a demonstrated interest in the medical sciences. It's really scatterbrained at this point, and the numbers themselves aren't fairly convincing.

I would encourage the applicant to apply, however. It's probably worth a shot!

Yea Mysoj what did you expect us to say to the kid?
"3.1 GPA and a 20 something ACT, and absolutely no Hotel Industry experience? You're a sure admit!"

I mean, Cornell is the easiest Ivy to get into, but that doesn't mean its admissions are a joke.

I'm guessing you're another kid with poor grades and poor scores trying to get into Ivies? Maybe that's why you were so offended? We're being realists here.

"Getting a 30 on the ACT is almost a given for me though. I rock standerdized tests."
Let's hope you know how to spell during the ACT, although spelling isn't even tested. Watch out on your essays tho!!

No one here can tell whether you're in or not. Numbers aren't everything.

It doesn't hurt to apply, maybe they'll acknowledge that you're a good fit for the school. Good luck, dude.

Perhaps I'm too blunt of a person to say it in the appropriate manner. ro51092 pretty much sums up what I TRIED to say:

"No one here can tell whether you're in or not. Numbers aren't everything.

It doesn't hurt to apply, maybe they'll acknowledge that you're a good fit for the school. Good luck, dude."

All I'm saying is that I know plenty of Cornell kids who are retarded. This guys is at least humble about his chances. So I said apply. Plus, it'll push down that 20% admit rate. Gosh guys.

Low chance, not impossible

Essay is really important in your case!!

lol @ rftennis09 - yeah because he's really scrutinizing his online forum post for spelling mistakes.. wow

lol i wouldn't apply as a hotel applicant if you've never had any hotel experience before... try to visit cornell a few times, and arrange an interview - show some interest and why you would fit in well. - and if you do rock @ standardized tests... then why not take the SAT? and then why would u get a 29 if you rock them? jw'ing..

good luck bro

People are incredibly harsh on here. I would like to point out that he admitted he wasn't "Ivy Material" (what ever that means, go ahead, define that one). However, Cornell emphasizes diversity, acceptance, and learning, which he obviously has plenty of, just look at his course load.

I would just like to say, since you are a writer, the essay should be as sincere as possible, don't apply to Cornell just because you heard about the Hotel School, say something about how Cornell's atmosphere, supportive faculty, and the Ithaca itself would benefit you because that's exactly what you're looking for. (White lies don't hurt.)

All this nonsensical prattle about how Cornell is SO easy to get into is ridiculous!
I have a 2300 SAT, meaningful EC's in the medical field, a 96 unweighted GPA (one of the highest in my class) in all APs/honors, and have a unique background to boot. And got deferred ED from Human Ecology.
Give it a rest, will you?

This applicant isn't looking great, the 3.1 GPA is too low for selective colleges, fit or no fit. If he worked in a Marriott for 4 years and got a rec from his boss, then I'd say he would have a decent chance.

You don't have work experience which is vital for an applicant like you applying to the Hotel School. Your GPA is extremely low. Sorry but I don't think you have a chance.

And to siffurnative: Diversity doesn't mean weak academics. It means standing out. I have a heavier courseload than he does and I have a 4.2 and am in the top 5% in my class. I also had hospitality work experience in a hotel for a summer and at a restaurant for two years. I'm captain/first singles for tennis, involved in tons of clubs and have hundreds of hours of community service and alumni relations (2 family members, both grads of Cornell's hotel school), I applied ED and I was deferred. I don't think that a 3.1, no hospitality experience, RD, and a fairly challenging courseload is going to get him into the most highly selective hospitality program in the world.

I agree with above post. The hotel school looks at hotel experience, extracurricular, etc. under the condition that an applicant has the gpa and sat to excel at cornell. Now a 3.1 gpa will not cut it. though it may sound harsh, the applicant has almost zero chance.

You can always transfer, and there have definetly been people who have successfully transfered to Cornell with lously high school stats and solid college stats.

Well Chandler. You should get on that.

You should just take the SAT's too. You might score better than your ACT's if your striving for a 30 then. So think about taking them.

Also, your essays need to really focus in on your interests to the Hotel school.

I see in ur EC's that you are dedicated to A LOT of things, and your a good writer as you said that...so may be you can tie those things together with your essays for Cornell and about ur essay for the Hotel School.

study study study

Well Chandler. You should get on that.

What should I be getting on?
