Hi, I am applying to basically all the UCs as well as cal poly pomona and san luis obispo. I think I want to major in chemical engineering. Out of all the classes I’ve taken, chemistry is the one that challenged me the most, but also my favorite. I’m from argentina. I came to this country right after i finished 8th grade but decided to retake 8th grade here due to my limited english. I had taken geometry in eight grade back in argentina, but when i came here they messed up my classes and they put me in prealgebra in 8th grade. My councelors just told me to stay in that class, so now i’m in pre calc as a senior. I think it will be harder for me to get into the engineering programs of ucsd, berkeley and ucla because of this. I’ve done extracurricular activities (clubs, and sports, and was the assistant soccer coach of a kids soccer team), and i’m currently working on a research project with a university in spain. my sat score is 1900 (i’m retaking it in december) and i took the sat subject test for chemistry and got a 690. Also my gpa right now is 3.95 (unweighed). i’m debating whether i should put down undeclared as my major, because some people say i may have a better change getting into those schools if i apply as undeclared, because it will be harder for me to get into the engineering programs. Please help me, i’m so lost right now.
At many campuses, changing into chemical engineering after enrolling will be difficult. Best to apply as a chemical engineering major if that is your top choice.
CPSLO does not have chemical engineering. CPP and a few other CSUs do have it. Many, but not all, UCs have it.
