Basically, since November, whenever I checked my status, the "Transcript" button was never checked off. I called my guidance counselor and she told me that my transcript was in the same envelope as my guidance recs. However, the site showed that they received the recs and not the transcript. I called Maryland up (early Dec.) and they said that they were "way behind" and needed to sort things out.

Now January comes and it is still unchecked so I decide to call again. They tell me that they never received it and to have my school fax my transcript to them. So I do this. Now I wait...and wait...and wait. Now its Febuary 4 and It still isnt checked off, so I call them again. Astonishingly they tell me that they never received my transcript and that I should fax one over and they will still consider me for ED. I do this and now it is Feb. 14 and they send me a letter telling me that "They are sorry, but there is no spac left for the fall semester however they will offer me a scholrrship for the spring semester 2010." There is no way im going there in the spring.

So basically they screwed me out of a "fair chance" because of their screwed up system. Sorry for the length, but I had to get this off my chest.

That is incredibly unfair!
The fact that they offered a scholarship, though, suggests that you are a really strong candidate, which means you will probably be accepted to many other great schools! At least you won't have to decide between UMD cheap and another school that might be your dream school, for a lot of money.. that might not be much consolation if UMD was your favorite school. =/ in that case maybe you could try to appeal?

Wow that is not right...
Clearly that is the university's fault for losing your transcript more than once.
Im positive that you're not the only one though...
What were your other college choices?

Go to your guidance counselor and ask for help. The counselor should call the admissions office and try to get a better answer. I would also do what I could to document all of your contacts with the university and put it in writing. Talk with the counselor about what you can do to appeal. Are you instate?

I recently applied to UMD as a transfer student. I requested a transcript be sent to UMD 2 weeks prior to March 1st. Now its March 7th and it still isn't checked off :( Should I be worried?

The lesson here is to call when it is very important. Whenever I speak with anyone I always ask for the person's name, fax it to the person's attention, then call the person right away to make sure it's received. Most computer systems are real time, there is no reason why status couldn't be updated right away.

JTate - call Mon, keeping calling until it is checked off.

Mattchew, if you do end up trying to negotiate this with UMD, would you please let the rest of us know what happens?
Good luck to you - either with UMD, or wherever else you end up.
