I'm really worried that my school forms will get lost in the mail.

E.g. letters of recommendation, midterm reports, college official reports. Does this happen often? I feel like using mail as opposed to online forms is kind of risky.

Just get tracked mail. Not sure of the exact price, but should only cost a dollar or so more.

I’m mailing in my materials from halfway around the world, and they reached their destination just fine.

I don’t think it’s that risky, but the USPS offers many services where you can track or have a signed receipt sent to you. Also, most schools have some sort of online portal where you see if application materials have been received.

Everything received by all colleges. No problems.

After working so hard to get those things, the grades, recommendation letters, etc., it is understanding that you are worried over them getting lost. They are valuable bits of paper and took a lot of time to put together. They all represent a lot of time and effort and it is incredibly important that they end up in the right place.

One of the best ways to keep yourself safe is to make copies. Keep copies of everything so that if something by chance does happen you have those to fall back on. It is a simple idea that can be used for a lot of things. You should have copies of all of your important papers. There are even those new scanners that you can slip your papers through and then store them on a file in your computer.

If you have copies then losing things in the mail will be one less thing for you to worry about. It is highly unlikely that you will actually lose something, but there is always the crazy chance that you will mail something through a post office that gets destroyed by a tsunami or something. Make some copies and relax!

What if my midterm reports are lost? I have the original (I sent photocopies), but one of my grades dropped to a B and I’d rather not send updated versions of my grades.

Forms submitted to four universities - all received with no problems. But do keep a copy. Maybe you can fax some. Depends on the school.
