Alright I’m going to make this short and sweet and I sure hope someone can help me. Basically I transfered to college that I hate, so I have applied to another university and got “Conditionally Accepted”. Thats great except I did horrible this semester (1.5 gpa) worst then I have ever done in college and im a junior I have a transfer gpa of a 3.08. this is my first and only semester at this college and since I didnt have at least a 2.0 gpa they are putting me on “Academic Probation”. The new college im looking to transfer states that under conditional acceptance I must have a tranferable gpa of a 2.25 and ELIGIBLE TO RETURN TO YOUR PREVIOUS INSTITUTION! My gpa for the semester isn’t going to drop my cumulative gpa below the 2.25 it will still be around a 2.86. My problem is by leaving my current college on academic probation am I eligible to return? Its my first semester here so the probation is a warning, I’m not getting kicked out. As for the other college is there a difference between " ELIGIBLE TO RETURN" and “BEING IN GOOD STANDING”? The semester is almost over and I’m ready to get out of here but if I loose my acceptance at the other school I will be forced to spend another grualing semster here to get myself off of academic probation. Any thought on this will be helpful thanks!
Goodlife, you are just going to have to ask at your current college. They will tell you whether or not you would be considered eligible to return.
I know I will be eligible to return now. Since I have only been at the college for one semester academic probation is just warning me that if I have another semester like I had this semester then im looking at suspention. But as for the school I’m transfering to all it says is I must be eligible to return to my recent institution. It says nothing about being in “Good Standing” like some university state, just eligible to return. I’m just trying to clarify the difference in the two and if there is difference.
It seems like you have dug yourself a pretty deep hole and are heading for your third college. What makes you think the third time will be the charm? I hear that you hate the current school and it is academically grueling for you. What makes you think school #3 will be different?
You need to talk to the college that has given you the conditional acceptance, as they are the ones using the term “eligible to return”.
I know I need to just talk to the other university and have them explain it. I was just hoping since I’m so impatient I would get a faster response. As for your other commit, trust me your not the only one who noticed that, imagine how my parents feel. My first college was a cc spent one semster there just enough to transfer to the university. That university was good but as I continued to educate myself and I found my niche. So basically my current college didn’t offer the subject of study I was interested in. I did my research and found one of the top schools in that subject, got accepted and took a chance. I left all my friends and family and moved to large city not knowing a single person. I’m a pretty outgoing guy and hold myself to a standard but this was tough. I ended up having trouble adapting and hating every aspect of where I was. You live and you learn no doubt and I dont regret it because it was definetly a growing experiance. I’m really not a bad student I’m just in a bad spot. Whatever happens I know it’s not going to be the end my world, I would just prefer to be in a different university.
Wait - I’m a little confused about the situation. So, from my understanding, you first attended a CC and transferred after one semester. Then, unfortunately that college didn’t have the exact major that you wished to study in, so you transferred into a school known for that major. However, you did poorly in the school in your first semester there and have bad chemistry with that particular school. Now you want to go back to the first university? But if they didn’t have your particular academic interest available, why go back to it?
???
Don’t blame your situation. You have a concerning problem. It’s not atypical or a terrible one but one you should acknowledge. The problem is “you let how you feel affect how you perform.”
This problem will follow you wherever you go for the rest of your life until you get a grip on it.
As an ex-Army guy, I had to learn how to perform my job in extremely hostile, hateful environments where failure was not an option. You will be at a competitive disadvantage in the workplace if you are up against someone who performs great in both good and bad conditions vs good conditions only.
This is not a criticism or judgement, just something I’ve seen many times in my experience and you are young enough to fix it before your 40 and find yourself out of a job because you failed to meet expectations because you weren’t “feeling” good.
Peace.
no i dont think so
I think that you are probably “eligible to return,” and that this is different from being “in good standing” and you probably need not worry. And I’m sorry that Madaboutx is trying to psychologically profile you when in fact he knows next to nothing about you or your life. His advice IS good advice, in general. However, if you have the courage to make major life changes (like switching colleges) when you feel they are necessary, I would consider that an admirable trait rather than a flaw, but what do I know? Good luck at whatever school you end up at : )
