I cannot believe I am doing this, but I have been in preliminary review since 12/13 and have not yet received a request for mid-year grades.

Female from fairly competitive high school in PA
Chemistry Major
3.7 UW/4.3 W
All Honors classes w/ 9 AP
33 ACT, 2180 SAT
School does not rank, only gives deciles (top 10%)

Extracurriculars/Volunteering: 2 varsity sports with many awards in each (All-Conference, County, Group), started Chemistry Club, member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society w/leadership positions in both, volunteer math tutor for mentally-handicapped children, volunteer soccer coach for physically-handicapped children

The rest is pretty subjective I guess. I think my essays did a solid job explaining the person I am and elaborating on some of my activities. Counselor rec is probably quite generic, teacher rec is absolutely glowing.

HERE IS THE KICKER. I interviewed, but it did not go too well. I definitely didn't bomb it, but the interviewer and I didn't quite click. That wouldn't be a deal-breaker, would it?

Thank you, and I'm so sorry for doing this!

sjwilson: E-mail Rakin Hall (admissions person) to check and make sure that your application is in order; I can almost bet you will get an e-mail from USC promptly telling you to send mid-year grades...If that makes you feel any better

I'm similar to you - I've been in preliminary review completed since 12/19 and I'm a female in PA going to a competitive private school, 2030 SAT etc. It's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Does anyone think that emailing or calling would be a bit too, I dunno, "paranoid" of me to do? I feel like it'd be me sending a message of me not trusting their process or something. o.O;

Besides, I don't get my midyear grades for another 3 weeks or so...

Don't worry about it. Quite a few people are in the same situation and your scores are actually quite good. I don't think you need to worry about it yet. But if it makes you feel better, call admissions and see what they say.

sjwilson: I agree with the other posts and really don't think you need to worry. Your scores, ECs are absolutely fine, VERY good actually. Please remember that USC has 34,000 applications to go through, and it's still February...early February. Acceptances will sent through end March. As for your status, LOTS of people are still on "preliminary", a LOT more than here on CC I expect.
The status can change twice in a matter of a couple of days. As for mid year grades...it's possible they won't even need them since your scores are solid. Send them anyway if they are good and it makes you feel better.

I'm just going to say what the others said: Don't worry, your stats are to die for and your extracurriculars are great. The interviews can do some good, but can't do bad. The interview isn't the deciding point. Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do great! :)

I'm with shadekeiko. Your stats are very close to mine (GPA is 3.73/4.46 at end of junior year and 2120 SAT so it evens out it my brain) except your ECs are a bit better. My status FINALLY switched to preliminary review on 1/11 and it's stuck there. I sent my midyear grades that day too. I'm glad I'M not the only one in this annoying boat. I just have to keep telling myself "It's not even mid Febuary." Ugh!
