Colleges:
Brown + HYPS(lol?) or Upenn
Cornell (ED)
University of Chicago (EA)
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
Case Western
Johns Hopkins University

Please any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

HYPS - (High) Reach
Brown - Lower Reach
UPenn - Reach
Cornell ED - Low Reach
UChicago EA - with good essays, Match/High Match
UMich - High Match
Case Western - Match/Low Match
JHU - Low Reach

You are aiming very, very high. Do you have match and safety schools too?

I think you have a good chance at Penn. My friend got in with a lower GPA, way worse ECs, and only slightly higher SATs.

I thought that case western and university of Michigan would be safeties. Should I add some more safety schools?

OSU would be a DEFINITE safety lol... although i do consider case western and u of m kind of safeties for me too.. (i live in ohio too!)

HYPS--Slight Reach to Reach
Upenn--Match to Slight Reach
Brown--Match
Cornell (ED)--Match
University of Chicago (EA)--Match to Slight reach
University of Michigan Ann Arbor--Match
Case Western--Safe Match to Match
Johns Hopkins University--Match

(you need a real safety--Ohio State/Penn State/Pitt/Illinois)

Best of luck.

P.S. And if you are a woman (I don't think you are, but you didn't say above) then you should consider MIT/Caltech--a woman with good grades and a math/science background would be more competitve at these than at HYPS

Wow brown is a match...didn't except that. Yeah I think I will apply to Ohio state also just in case I get really unlucky

Brown stresses high test scores and lots of volunteer work. That's why I ranked you higher at Brown than at Univ of Chicago.

Also, you should know that Brown is the most diverse of all the Ivies--so anything relating to this might be a good essay topic. For example, in your volunteer work, did you get to understand people from different backgrounds and work together with them well.

Best of success.

Yeah, I love the laid back atmosphere of Brown as well as the ability to forumulate your own schedule. I was just worried that they will look down upon my SAT writing. Since my act is slightly better should I just send that or should I send both scores. As for college essays I plan to write either about my passion for music or for volunteering. Thanks for all the help!

Chicago is also laid-back in its way. Turn down a lot of the pre-professional grade-grubbing and competition that exists at other schools, and turn up the serious academic/liberal arts college vibes. It's not "laid-back" for everybody, but it's "laid-back" for me.

I'm sure you're also aware that Chicago has a rigorous Core curriculum, which is the opposite of an open curriculum. Core classes are terrific, though, and they really help to sharpen your skills and help you think better. They are also small, discussion-based classes, often with rockstar professors.

For your Chicago essays, make sure that you make them interesting and honest. Chicago still has its uncommon application, which encourages students to really write crazy, strange, analytical essays (or streams of consciousness, or short stories, or poems). If you write about music or volunteering, you risk sounding too generic, but then again you probably have a way to make your essays your own.

Yeah, I've heard about University of Chicago's weird essays (what's your fav. day of the week.) Also, I have an opportunity to work at a pharmacy for a few months will the job experience be very helpful in college aps or not very important?
