I finished my first year of college and everything went fine. I made friends and made mostly A's. I thought I fit in, but this summer I've been feeling differently. I really do like my college, but one thing that bugs me the most is that I'm in band, but I don't do marching band. I feel like some people in my section look down on me for not doing marching band. Plus, I have nothing to play in during the fall semester. Almost everything is for music majors (I'm majoring in accounting). I was hoping that minoring in music would help me get to play in more ensembles, but it doesn't. There's a college close to my home that has no marching band and does concert band all year. I really want to play my horn more, but I also like being away from home. Any suggestions?

Are you sure there aren’t other options at your school? Other music classes you don’t know about, or maybe you can talk to a professor about getting into one of the other ones? At my school there are “DeCal” classes that are student run (they count as credits, but don’t fill any subject requirements)… if your school has some sort of system for fun, less official classes, maybe you can find a musical group in that listing. You could also keep playing even without a class, or maybe find other students in a similar situation who aren’t doing fall band but still want to play.

On marching band: I seriously doubt other students would look down on you for not joining it, I assume you have your reasons, and they should understand that it’s too big a time commitment or whatever. (Alternatively, if marching band is during Fall, why not join it? Seems it would solve both your problems.)

It sounds like overall, you’re pretty happy with your current school, so transferring probably isn’t the best option… even if you could take music class in the fall, would you really want to transfer and face whatever problems the other school has just for one class?
