i used to think librarians were old, overweight, and sat at their desk waiting for patrons to talk to them. i never thought of being one, it seemed like a boring job. but i just started at the library as an assistant, and they seem to treat librarians pretty well. i hear they get paid pretty well too. and the working environment isn't even as stressful as most people in business. but i hear this from someone who isn't even a librarian. haha. the librarians i work with all seem to love their job. but could anyone tell me what they really do all day? are one of their responsibilities to just read and gain knowledge? i just wanted to hear from others. thanks!

I don't know much about the day to day work requirements of a librarian, but my aunt happens to be one. More specifically, she works for the State of California in Sacramento filing and preserving important documents.
The work environment is somewhat normal, there are arguments and difficult interactions that you would encounter at other jobs as well.
If you'd like, I could ask her a little more about her responsibilities as a librarian--and I'm quite certain that they are more taxing than just reading all day! ^^ LOL
But really I suggest you contact libraries and do a little research on your own. There are plenty of opportunities ranging from local libraries to government run/state libraries. PM me if you'd like more information, I'll try to get you some.
