To introduce my backgroud a little, I've been attending church since I was little, my family is Christian, and I went to chiristian school from K-12.

So, I guess God exists b/c that's what people around me say?? I mean, I know about the bible(well, I had bible classes since K-12 at school, home, church, camp etc) so don't tell me that God exists because Bible said so.

Now I'm about to be an athiest, so tell me why I should (or should not) believe in God.

"Now I'm about to be an athiest"...ok, so then what are you trying to find out. The Christian idea of God has no more merit than any other religion's God. I would only tell you that there is a lot that we don't know about the world, other galaxies, solar systems, and planets exist that we know nothing about. To think you have it all figured it out with religion is nonsensical and idiotic.

do you honestly think the answer will lie on a college forum? go ask someone who actually knows something. theologist, rabbi, pastor, priest, whatever. even a church friend can help you more than some faceless person who has no idea what's going on in your life and isn't even sure you exist.

congrats on becoming an atheist. "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins is an excellent book, in my opinion. Christians may claim the book to be biased. You can read it and see for yourself whether you want to stay christian or not

Well, I can't tell you what to believe but I can share my beliefs with you. I'm a Christian, and even though sometimes my faith is weak and I struggle with my beliefs, I eventually am always drawn back to my faith. I know firsthand that it is hard to believe 100% in God all the time, but when I think of all the intricacies of life (from the immense complexity of the brain to the functioning of the solar system, for example), it just doesn't make logical sense to me that all this came about by random chance.

"(from the immense complexity of the brain to the functioning of the solar system, for example)"

True, for the simple fact that evolution is not random chance. But yeah with the solar system I agree with you, there might be some sort of higher power out there. However, it is laughable that out of thousands of religions, you think that yours is somehow right. Religion-God-Higher Power are not the same thing and people need to stop thinking they are. There is more than one God believed in in the world, there are thousands of other religions that completely contradict yours and still have many believers.

That's nice; tell us when college lobbies you to Satanism.

Anyway, you said you were an atheist, so that by default means you don't believe in a God of any kind. I don't see the point of proselytizing the other way now, unless, of course, you were just looking for an argument.

So I guess this'll do: Go ahead and believe in God again.
