I was wondering how significant colleges perceive awards at various levels of science fair competitions to be (Regional, State, ISEF). Is there a big difference between, say, 1st in category at state and qualifying to ISEF. Can someone rate these on a scale of 1-10: participation at regional level, 1st in category at regional level, qualifying to state, placing at state (2-5), 1st in category at state, qualifying to ISEF, grand award at ISEF. Thanks
Hey this is kind of late but… I mean obviously a higher award is going to be more impressive to schools. Here’s my ranking:
- Grand award at ISEF
- Qualifying to ISEF
- 1st in category at state
- Placing at state
- Qualifying to state
- 1st in category at regional level
- Participation at regional level
Thanks. I understand the general overview more or less, but I was mainly concerned with the difference between qualifying to ISEF and 1st in category at State. Is there a significant difference between the two or will colleges view them similarly?
I don’t think there’s too much of a difference, both are impressive but could be better.
