Impact of tardies on your chances of getting in

I am a junior that has a 98 average with many advanced and AP classes. I also do tons of extracurriculars and a varsity sport. I have receive many praises from teachers as well and am not a student to cause any trouble. I never miss any school either. Recently I got an unexcused tardy for going to a music lesson (required for my orchestra class). I have talked to my teachers who say that it is unable to be cleared, so this will end up on my transcript.

Will the tartdy Impact my chances of getting into a highly selective college? I am so used to doing everything right, kinda freaking out about it…

No. I would be really surprised if tardies actually show up on a transcript.

@nwcollege Are you sure the School Report would show tardiness? Seems like something colleges wouldn’t track. Even if it did show a single tardy wouldn’t be an issue, nor would an unexcused abscence. Colleges understand you have a life. Sounds like you are a great kid, don’t stress!

One tardy? That’s good. One of my friends older siblings is currently enrolled at Harvard and got tardys practically every week.

I really hope not. My record is 18 in a single class over the course of a semester.

For reals?

ONE tardy?..

I didn’t have a problem getting accepted to my top choices, and I don’t remember a week where I went without a tardy… I had over 40 in one class my sophomore year…

…So I think you’re fine.

hahaha. OP – I think you’re a little high strung. Don’t floss today. Run around the house carrying scissors. Fart loudly and proudly. Live life a little!

It will have zero impact on college admissions. And relax…everyone is allowed to be imperfect…as a matter of fact, it is healthy.

My kids’ attendance records were in their transcripts, along with a bunch of other junk. I can’t imagine a school caring unless there were a lot of them. If I were the admissions officer , I’d care if there were other thing in the record that showed the student didn’t seem to respect the school or the teacher, but I’m the mother who didn’t write excuses for my kids if they were late or skipped school. One tardy? Probably a mistake or as OP explained, a unique day. 20 or 30? That’s a student who can’t be places on time, can’t handle a schedule, or has no respect for the teacher or class. That would be an issue for me.
