I chose a competitive major when I applied to the UC schools. Will this impact whether or not I will be admitted?

well, no point in worrying about it now, right?

When you say “competitive”, do you mean impacted? If so, then yes, admission for impacted majors is more difficult. I don’t think we know just how severely a major is impacted, so there’s no point in worrying about it know.

My intended major was computer science. And I know that it is probably one of the most competitive majors out there. Will this bring down my chances?

Do the UC’s admit straight into the major, or do they just accept into the university itself?

computer science in L&S? choice of L&S major doesn’t affect admissions; you come in undeclared anyways.

Indiscreetmath is correct for your first question. As to your second question, it depends on the school. For example, I am applying to Cal for BioE. If I don’t get the major, I get rejected from the school as a whole. I am also applying to UCSD, where they can reject from BioE but admit me as undeclared. Each school has their own policy.

That’s a relief. I applied to L&S in Berkeley.
@mantell: For UCSD, if I am not admitted into my major, I may possibly still be admitted into the school?
Would anyone happen to know how it works at UCLA and UCSB?
