IMPACTED MAJOR APPEAL

One of my reasons in why I want to appeal and go to my dream school is because they have a specific Engineering major that other colleges do not have. In my initial application, I applied for CS, in which I discovered this engineering major after I sent in my application. I got rejected for direct admission and as a freshmen, so I decided to appeal. I have a section in my letter where I wrote the specific reasons in why this major is what I wanted to do at this school and what I want to do with this program in the future.

But, engineering is very highly impacted at this school. It says if you do not get direct admission as a freshmen, you are unlikely to receive admission as a sophomore or junior. I’m afraid after I appeal, they may look at my stats and say I won’t get admission as a sophomore or junior for engineering, so why accept her as a freshmen? Should I take out my decision and reasons in wanting to major in this engineering degree? I know I should have different schools in mind, but I really cannot see myself at other schools as this school holds the same values and I really feel I belong on campus.

You should leave your reasons in your appeal letter.

You should make your best case in your appeal letter! It sounds like you have good reasons to offer. Remember, in the regular admissions process, UW didn’t read any letter of recommendation or accept any supplementary essay where you could have made your argument, so now is your chance!

Take seriously UW’s message that if you don’t appeal successfully and get directly admitted to engineering, and you really want to major in engineering, you should not expect to be admitted later; choose another university.

At the admissions information session we attended in February, the admissions officer made it clear that Direct Admit as a Freshman to both CS and Engineering is the only way to get into those schools now. They are removing the opportunity to apply as a Sophomore.
So your only chance is through an appeal to be accepted to Engineering now.

Then don’t go to that school. There are plenty of ABET accredited schools out there that will admit you. If they rejected you, sending an appeal is a losing battle.
