Importance of junior year gpa?

So I'm currently a junior at a top 110ish (nationwide) in northern virginia. I messed up really bad freshman and sophomore years but I'm hoping that my junior year can make it up.
Freshman and sophomore year my gpa was a 3.4w 3.2ish uw(quite bad)
Juniors year I'm expecting around 3.84ish uw and 4.3w

High school gives +1 for aps and +.5 for honors.

Will my junior year help cover up my terrible grades freshman and sophomore year?

My sat is decent 770 math 750 cr 620 writing (hoping to improve writing)

I'm looking at virginia tech (engineering), and I doubt I'd be able to get into uva and William and Mary.

Ecs: ok I play travel soccer, volunteer (tutor, food bank), few honor societies etc

What are my chances and will my junior year help me out enough?

It will certainally help. Colleges like improvement!! Just get really involved in some ECs, take hard classes, and score high on some sat subject tests.

Do you think I would compare to someone who just got a 3.8w every year without and upward trend?

It is kind of obvious - no. If I have a 3.7 GPA, a person with a 3.8 GPA will always have a GPA higher then me. Of course, you can cover that with other things such as test scores, extracurricular activities etc.

Upward trend helps, but it would not cover up the lower GPA from previous year. However, a cumulative GPA of 3.7 with upward trend is much better than a cumulative GPA of 3.7 with no upward trend.

Bump
