Importance of Junior Year Grades? (AP Chem)

I'm a junior this year and am looking at applying to BME and several BS/MD programs next year.

I attend a STEM-focused high school that ranks in the top 10 in the country, so it has been a lot harder for me to maintain really good grades. I have had good grades the past three years (mostly As/A-)- this year I received all As/A-s with exception to AP Chem, in which I got a B-. However, I scored an 800 on the Chem SAT.

I'm really worried as to how this B- in AP Chemistry is going to affect my overall profile when I apply for colleges, in particular BS/MD programs. How much do you think this will impact my chances? Is it worth addressing the grade in my transcript? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Don’t worry too much. One B in any class (especially AP Chemistry) can be understood by most colleges. As long as you have other involvement in/out of school you should be fine. Unless you have a specific circumstance that contributed to your grade, I wouldn’t address it in your application either.

Lol, TJ? I had the same problem except I had a C+ in physics. Trust me, one grade won’t kill your app. While I wasn’t applying for BS/MD, I did manage to get 2 full tuition scholarships. If you want more tj specific advice, feel free to PM me.
