Importance of leadership

I know that holding a leadership position looks good for colleges, but how important are they for BS/MD programs? I'm asking this because many people at school are voted in because they're popular, wealthy, or good-looking, etc. and although I know I can be a good leader, it's just that I'm not exactly popular. Moreover, my best friends go to another school, so they can't vote or support me. So even though I may be passionate about a club, I won't necessarily win over the cool, hot, rich person that's friends with everyone . . .

So what I'm saying is, would it be horrible to not have any leadership positions? Is it still possible to get into a great BS/MD that way?

It's still possible, but leadership is important..

Besides, you do not have to be popular, good-looking, etc. to be voted in. If you can prove you have what it takespeople will vote. At least that's how it is at my school.....

same at mine.....but i mean, you do have to be personable.
