Importance of SAT in holistic application

How important is the SAT in UC berkeley holistic application process??

I know SAT is only one factor out of all the considerations, but still,,, what percentage would you say it is important???????????????????????

if you have a crappy SAT it’s gonna hurt. chances are there’s an applicant similar to you with a better SAT.

SAT is pretty important in any top tier university like Berkeley, in a sense. These schools say they have a holistic application process and this is generally true. But, a two headed dragon when it comes to SAT scores. A low SAT score is enough to keep you out of Berkeley, but a good SAT scores isn’t enough to get you in. SAT is probably one of the three most iimportant factors (along with GPA and rigor of schedule) in deciding admission.

Schools will usually list how important factors are in their admission.

Most schools have standardized scores as “very important” or “important”.

It’s important. The SAT shows how well you are prepared for college, or at least that’s what it’s supposed to. Holistic admissions usually means that they are not just looking for grades and SAT, but also for good EC’s. Since most of your applicants for impacted majors at the UC’s have great grades and SATs as well as good EC’s, then your chances get slim. If you really want to go UC Berkeley and name is all that matters (not something that I would recommend personally), then choose a really unpopular major.
