Importance of SAT Subject Tests.

My S is in the same boat as Desigirl09. Math2c is 740 but the percentile seems to be quite low. Will that matter for an engineering major?

This dead thread has been resuscitated!

btw, 670 is at hte bottom of the middle 50% for gA tech math SAT scores... so i wouldn't necessarily call it a safety even.

To Desigirl and baseball:

Colleges look at the score, not the percentage. However. The percentage counts in that 24% of those that took mathII got a better score, and they are probably going for the engineering spots in those top schools. (Because who other than future engineers actually take mathII?).

The reason the percentage is so off is that the people who generally take mathII are crazy good with numbers. People who are average at math don't take it, or take mathI. I got a 730 in lit and my percentage was 94.

I just was searching something like this and I have another similar situation that maybe you could help me out with.

I’m a good student who has pretty good standing. I got accepted to the Jackson Lab Summer Program as a junior and the Simons Program. If you’re familiar, you know that both are decently competitive, so it shows I am in good shape for applications.

Unfortunately, I am not very good at math. My Math II subject test will probably be in the low 600s.

I want to go into neurolinguistics (cognitive science) and was wondering if I had bother apply to colleges like Carnegie Mellon that have high math SATs.

Closing old thread.
