Only taken one subject test

So I'm applying to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB, UCD, Cal Poly, and SDSU, all for engineering. I've only taken one subject test, which is biology (did pretty bad since it was freshman year, got a 630), and haven't taken the Math 2 subject test. Will not taking the Math 2 hurt my chances at these colleges? I didn't take it because my Pre-Calculus and Algebra 2 teachers were horrible (math department at my school is terrible) and I did NOT feel confident that I would do good, considering how poorly I did on practice tests.

I'm just scared that not having a score for Math 2 will look very bad, since the UC's "recommend" it.

Kind of, yes.

For a highly math based major such as that, the Math 2 is recommended (read: expected) because it’s a good standardized indicator of higher-level math skill (than say, the SAT).
Not sure if there’s much you can do for UCs, but send in any AP math scores if you have them. Good, consistent grades in math classes would also help as well.

I haven’t taken any math AP tests, but I’ve gotten straight A’s throughout highschool, aside from a B+ in Biology freshman year.

Will having a good ACT score make up for not having a Math 2 score?

No, not for UC’s

ACT math isn’t as hard as the SAT Math 2 is, so not entirely.
It won’t hurt you, though.

@extremecouponing‌ @skieurope‌ I have a similar concern. How important are subject tests compared to SAT’s for Berkeley engineering? I got a 2190(680+780M+730) on the SAT, but only a 680 on physics. You guys seem to knoww what you are talking about: should I retake physics or the SAT during December?

@kyleriver Math 2 has a VERY generous curve(You can skip 5 questions). Getting a max score was easy to come by personally.

@Dynasty21 Don’t hijack another person’s thread; it’s not cool. To answer your question, though, if it were me, I’d retake physics.
