Importance of Sports?

Hello everyone! So I've been looking into Michigan a lot lately and it seems like everyone there either really enjoys playing sports or goes out to parties a lot. I was wondering if that was true, cause I'm awful at sports (though I don't mind watching them) and I don't particularly like partying. Do you think those two things would have a huge impact on any social life I'd have? Would I be out of place at Michigan? Thanks!

The short answer is no.

You can have a good time at Michigan without going to parties and without playing sports. I love sports. However, I think I have only played a sport once during my 3 years at U-M so far. It’s good that you like to watch sports though.

College parties are incredibly overrated. If you don’t like drinking and you don’t like dancing, then you will have a horrible time at them. Also, people may smoke at a party, which is incredibly annoying.

Instead of going to parties, just hangout with friends, play video games, read, surf the web, or do whatever it is you like to do. Parties are NOT important. You rarely hear anything about them in class. Employers will not ask you about parties. Graduate school applications will not ask about parties.

There are PLENTY of people who have a fine time without going to parties.

Michigan has 28,000 undergrads. Most of them are welcoming and tolerant. In other words, everybody can fit in nicely and thrive socially.
