Will the writing section be important for juniors planning to apply in the fall, and how important? I have heard everything from "Just as important as the math and critical reading" to "they won't have the data, so not really important at all."
Just wondering because I scored well in both math and CR (1570), but dropped the writing (640). Would those scores still be accepted into top engineering schools? (Caltech, Harvey Mudd, CMU, etc)

well...you'd better take another test just for a higher writing..(at least above 700)

I went on many college tours, and the ones that wanted writing said anything over 700 is good....no need to stress between a 730 and a 780....just get that 7 !!!!

I think they're starting to consider it more than they did last year probably, at least from what they've said when I've visited a few.

Although, a bunch of brochures and mailings I've gotten asking for you to send info back have only had math and verbal... to which I get mad b/c I did the best on writing.

miss independent, don't sweat it - my guess is that they're re-using old brochures & mailings that they had left over. While a poor writing score may not hurt terribly, a good one can only help.
