Hey guys,

I'm an international student (junior) living in Europe looking to study in the US. I was wondering whether it is possible to take SAT II subject tests in December (of this year) and still receive my scores in time to mail them off before the December 31st deadlines. I've heard mixed answers from a number of sources, so I'm just making sure. I plan to apply to maybe a few UC's and I've heard that things work differently for them too. Would I still be able to send in my results to UCLA or UCSD?

The reason I'm asking is because I won't be able to make it to the June testing date, and I plan on signing up for the SAT I in October and November, leaving December as my only available month left to take the subject tests. The deadline for signing up for the June test is TOMORROW (ha, yea i know) so I need to know pronto whether I may have to move my schedule around and eventually take the subject tests in a month from now.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

I've generally heard that it would be best to get your SAT IIs done in November. Consider the fact if you decide to do ED. If you change your mind and do ED, it might really hurt you to take it in December.

What you can always do is: SAT IIs in Early October. ACT in Late October. Take SAT in Early November. I suggest that so that you have the time to study over the summer/in October for SAT IIs + ACT.

I strongly suggest taking the ACT because for many colleges (i'm not sure about UCs) allow ACT takers to be exempt from the SAT II requirements. Also, it's optional to send so if you do well, it will help you. This way, you have a choice on which score is better. Either way, many kids do better on the ACT than on the SAT. Why not give it a try?

thanks for the reply!

oh wow, i totally forgot about ED/EA! i am thinking about a few places. wow, dumb question when i think about it. i guess that settles the question of whether or/not to take tests in december.

if i were to apply early to a school, and still take a test in november, can i somehow indicate in my application that i am planning on taking the test that month and sending in my score late?

oh forgot about the ACT. well, that's a good idea, but I've pretty much geared myself for the SAT and changing this late in the game wouldn't help me too much.

you see, i technically already have two subject test scores under my belt, but they are both foreign languages (i scored well, 720 and 750) but i'm not sure whether they will count as my "two subject tests" since their in the same general "area".

I made that same mistake with assuming that just because it's the same subject matter, its' one test. No, it's not. If you have two, that's fine. Obviously, you did well...so, technically you don't need to take it. But, certain schools require you to take certain SAT IIs ..and those may not fit the requirements. Definitely find out what you school requires.

If you take the test in November, it really depends on the school. Some schools have the rule that you can't take anything in November. It depends on the policy. But, I think in most cases, you can take a test in November. Just call up and tell them so they know..to wait.
