According to the College Board website regarding score verification at the above address, it is not possible to re-score an SAT essay; essay scores are only "verified" in the sense that the score that the grader indicated is entered if it differs from the score that appears on the score report.

"Essay Score Verification

For the SAT, the scoring process includes an independent scoring of each essay by two qualified readers. If the two readers' scores differ by more than one point, a scoring director will score the essay. This automatic validation ensures the accuracy of the essay scoring process.

If you choose to have your essay score verified, the College Board will determine whether there was an error made in the scanning or processing of the essay scores assigned by essay readers. In this situation, your adjusted score is automatically reported and your fee is refunded.

IMPORTANT: The verification of essay scores does not include rereading the essay or an appeal of the essay score. The score verification fee will not be refunded for essays written in pen."

If I am in doubt as to the validity of the score I received on the essay, is there any recourse available that would specifically allow for a re-grading?

I am retaking in March, but it is upsetting that my essay could have been graded unfairly, as this is the main reason for me to retake.

No, unfortunately, there isn’t energia. I have taken the test over 10 times, and although I consistently score a 12 or an 11 on the essay, there have been times in which I received a 9 or a 10.

I felt exactly as you feel right now, and believe me when I say that I was on the phone with ETS and College Board for over 5 hours trying to rectify what I felt was “an unfair score.”

They will tell you exactly what you yourself have posted - that you can request a rescoring of your essay only if you believe that there was perhaps some technical error made in scoring your essay. In other words, only if you feel that they didn’t grade your essay fairly because it was not scanned or uploaded properly can you make such a request.

Go ahead and do it, as I myself tried to, but you will be disappointed when you find out that they WILL NOT REGRADE YOUR ESSAY simply because you think they scored it unfarily.

I don’t think there’s a way man… Look, the people here, all of us, are mostly students just like you… We like your essay, yes… But maybe there’s a reason for that score that we may not be aware of… Like how your examples are relevant. All you have to do now, is read 12 essays and see how you can improve… And for what it’s worth, Uni’s get a copy of your essay… so if u submit both ur jan and march scores, and the admission’s office decides to take at your essay to see y you got that score… they’ll see what you wrote and would probably sympathize…
plus, either way… improving on ur SAT’s after the 2nd time shows uni’s how persistent you are.

hahahaha… and a lot of uni’s don’t even take the writing section into consideration cuz they disapprove of the way Collegeboard formulated the essay and that the section is still new. It was introduced only in 2005… So seriously dude!Nothing to worry about!!! :D

I wish I can get your score (no envy or anything… )

Thank you guys for your responses, I will simply try my best for a 12 on the March test date.

As for CR advice, I’m afraid that I just answer questions with the choice that just feels right, and it ends up working.

For sentence completion, I don’t even know half of the words, I deduce the answers from what I do know, and I learn words as I go from roots and such.

For the passage based questions, I read each passage as if it’s the most important thing in the world, then I read questions, go back to the lines mentioned, and the answer is usually plain as day.

Writing is similar, I look at a sentence, determine the author’s message, and make edits so that the message is conveyed in a grammatically correct way.

Thanks again, guys, and good luck to you, 2200andbeyondXD, if you do plan on retaking the SAT; I hope you achieve your goal score.

I use your EXACT SAME METHOD… and it went well in the last past tests I took as practice before Jan (700+)… But i found Jan’s TOUGH! wasn’t it!!! I dunno whether I should repeat the test. I mean I got a 2160 with 800M, 620CR and 740W (darn the essay…)
So um… I dunno I’m international so… I mean what do you think?
I was thinking of taking 2 Subject tests this year and, if I feel like it next year, redo SAT… I am afraid i’ll forget everything by then though…

How much longer do you have before you apply to schools? If you are considering applying early anywhere this fall, I would use the two remaining test dates before summer to take the SAT again and the subject tests you are going to take.

I, for instance, am currently registered for the May 4 SAT, and I plan on taking SAT Math 2, Literature, and Biology (not sure E/M) in June. If I feel confident enough about it, I will also take SAT Chemistry in October, and perhaps the remaining Biology test. Unless I am mistaken, the October test date allows for the reporting of subject tests to schools prior to the Nov 1 deadline for fall early applications, so this plan fills all my needs.

Again, it would be helpful to know what exactly your timeline is. I’m also curious, which schools are you planning on applying to?

I am a junior so…
My dream is, of course, top uni’s, (lately I’ve been very interested in premed ar MIT) but I have confidence of 0… cuz My country doesn’t have any "top notch"national contests or what’s not… I have done everything I could for EC’s… from president of student council for 2 years now (and founder… school hd none… i know -_-) , organizing many events in my school, like environmental days, costume show… bla, bla, bla… as in, Head of the events’s club, fundraising club, debates’ cub…
I have also been involved in a fundraising campaign that we a bunch of teenagers carried out on out own to help orphans in Gambia… this is the second year so far for the campaign which was very successful last year
I had a summer job for two years (well it started as volunteering in the 1st year, then they decided to pay me XD) in which I used to teach children an English course…

But THAT’S IT! I am found of doing something that doesn’t involve school, and that makes me feel… useful somehow… But I can barely find anything!

I feel so underachieved you know… plus…

My school doesn’t offer AP’s or any rigorous courses… I am planning to self study as many AP subjects as I can next year… I feel like I’m at a GREAT disadvantage! It’s just so unfair cuz i AM trying my best… and taking every chance I get!

What do you think?!

Anyway… I’ll post this on a separate thread to get everyone’s opinion too…
sorry for the blabber XD
