IMPORTANT (SORRY)... HB pencil = No. 2 pencil ?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but… for the AP test, we need No. 2 pencils. Is this the same as HB??

No.2B is darker.

Oh, haha, my dad was an architect and we never had #2 pencils around the house. Only eraserless HB, 2B, etc. and those horrible H’s. I would go with 2B as well, though I do think HB is technically equivalent to #2. My personal favorite is the very soft 4B but probably too soft for filling in those circles!

HB is equivalent to 2.

Yup, take HB pencils, or equivalently, #2 pencils.

Just buy some #2 pencils already. It’ll cost you a buck a dozen.

“HB” and “Number 2” are different names for the same thing:

If the OP does not live in the U.S., he or she will have trouble buying a box labeled “Number 2” as that designation is not widely used outside of the U.S. The international term for the same thing is “HB.”

I don’t live in the US, and all the shops and supermarkets that sell school supplies all sell #2 pencils for examinations. It’s a pretty standard thing.

^ Not really; depends on where.
