I'm currently a junior and last year, I received a C in pre calculus. When I told my friends that I wanted to go to Rice, they said that my C made it impossible for me. I was wondering if my C would drastically hurt my chances for Rice.

My current stats are:
SAT 1: 2120 CR: 640 M: 770 W: 710 Essay:9
SAT 2s: Math 2 770 Bio 740
AP: Bio (5)

GPA Unweigted: 3.83
Current Classes: Chinese 3, Ap Chem, Ap English, AP Calculus, Art 2, US History

Nope, I got a C in pre-calc sophomore year too, and got in. But I got A’s in math my junior and senior year. If you show improvement, hopefully you’ll be okay.

I got a C in Junior AB Calculus, and B’s for all the other grading periods in Calculus. I got plenty of B’s throughout high school and I was admitted ED.

Absolutely not a problem as long as you are interesting and deep enough in different ways. Great essay will help. Maybe a handwritten note to explain how/why that C happened, what you learned, etc. And get an A now if you can so you can sleep a little better.

Also, don’t listen to your friends. Pretty much none of them know anything about the admissions process at any school. Not to sound arrogant or anything, but the more and more I talked to my friends about colleges and admissions the less and less I realized they knew. Good rule of thumb is that if they’re not interested in sites like CC, they don’t know what they’re talking about.
