Are you trying to steer away competition? I saw your post. I know I am not special, but applying won't really hurt me one way or the other, so why not?

NO
i am not trying to

please don't misunderstand me. i am trying to draw up an analogy

also i heard stanford favors older applicants.

i think the fact that youre younger than everyone else makes you special. dont listen to area69. you have nothing to lost if you apply anyways.

Thanks. That is actually why I am applying: I have nothing to lose.

don't listen to these people. If you want to apply to standford then apply. It's not like it's going to hurt you or something.

I mean go for it. You'll never know.

Good advice hnbui.

yeah the only way it can hurt is in the wallet. those application fees are insane.

as for your chances, its a common misconception, furthered by folks like area69, that all acceptees to these top schools are perfect little national award winning senators children. this is completey untrue. stanford accepts over 100 transfer students a year nationwide, and theyre not all like that. in fact, MOST arent like that. you are definetly in the range theyre looking for, so take a shot. if you dont try, youll be more annoyed later on than if you apply and get rejected.

Thanks. And yeah those application fees are crazy and then when you add to them $3 for each transcript, $7 for each SAT score report, and tons of time (opportunity cost), it definitely adds up.

$3? damn my school charges 5. not as bad as my friend though. shes applying to 13 schools, and has to send 3 transcripts to each (some college courses from HS, one from her first college, one from current college). now that hurts.

Since I first started this thread I decided that I am applying to sixteen different schools.

USC probably wont accept me. :(

16 different schools wow! How many credits have you amassed going to CC for FOUR years wow!. Did you start while you where in highschool/studying for the GED? What other experiance do you have?

cc student, you wouldn't know until you get the envelope, so keep your hopes up. good luck to you! ;)

Thanks Keskul and Peeko. I am trying to keep my hopes up. Soon I will finally start receiving letters (hopefully acceptance letters).

I did not take the GED. I took a diploma equivalency test offered in California that is much easier than the GED. Basically, it required no additional study time because most of the material was fairly elementary. For instance, all I had to do on the test was write a short essay, comprehend a few simple articles, and perform basic pre-algebra skills. On top of that, I only needed to complete 60% of the test correctly to pass.

My units for four years aren't as high as I would have hoped. But, then again I skipped one semester, and at first I was limited to the number of units I could take because I did not have a diploma. Yet, I made up for my lack of units later. Right now, I am taking 25 units...

But, honestly, thanks for your support!

Stanford accepts usually about 100 transfer students. They like students from my school, who are all younger than the normal transfer.

Don't listen to Area 69. It doesn't know what it's talking about.

actually, stanford takes 10-20 students per year from COMMUNITY college, with the rest coming from 4 year schools and ivys.

Thanks anisky. I know that Stanford is a long shot, but I do not see the harm in applying. I do not expect to be admitted there, but I wouldn't mind.
