Impressions?

Hi!. Son 2 is interested in Beloit following a visit from a rep at his school. Anyone here had experience visiting Beloit? Would you be willing to note strengths and weaknesses? Any new about financial aid?

THANKS!

We visited as a family, and son stayed overnight. It was well organized as part of an interview process for merit scholarships. The school seems to focus on what it says: you can invent yourself at Beloit. There are fewer general ed. requirements than usual. It seems filled with quirky but very nice kids. The town of Beloit is not your usual college town and most of the students seem to stay on campus on weekends. It seemed that the college is well aware that it's somewhat isolated and seems to make-up for that with lots of campus activities. A downside might be size: with fewer than 2000 students, you get to know everyone very quickly, which of course, can be a good or bad thing. We knew about Beloit from the Princeton Review and then had an interview with one of the admit. reps. who came to our area. He was a great representative of the college and the college has been extrememly responsive to any questions we've had. Our impression from the parents' forum we attended was that it is solid academically and that it's a safe and nurturing atmosphere for the students.
