We are watching the weather here in Virginia and looks like my son will miss yet another day due to snow tomorrow…We were thinking of getting in the car and heading south ahead of the storm. We have a visit scheduled in April, but wondered if we would be able to talk to anyone if we showed up unannounced tomorrow??? Would be nice if my son didn’t have to miss a day of school and this storm might make that possible. Thanks!

Did you try to see if any tours are still available for tomorrow?

If not, try this…

Send Jami Gates an email now asking if she knows someone who could do a tour tomorrow. jami gates 205-348-5599 jami.n.gates@ua.edu

If she can’t find anyone, show up at the Student Center (where the tours start) as early as possible to get your name on the tour waiting list (often people don’t show.) There are 2 tours a day.

If that’s not possible, Bama has iPod tours…they’ll give you an iPod and it directs you on a tour.

Lastly, visit my campus tour tips for more ideas…

I’ll try to come up with some more ideas… :)

They don’t have any tours listed for tomorrow, but I will try Ms. Gates. Thanks!

Another question is would people at the colleges be willing to talk to us even if we weren’t on a guided tour?

Tomorrow is a University Days, so a lot will be going on…That’s why no tours are available.

Yes, people will still talk to you even if you’re not on a guided tour. LOL :)

What college/major is of interest???

It is perfectly fine to visit campus even if you aren’t on the official tour. E-mail the departments you are visiting and they should be able to see you. Even if you showed up unannounced, I’m sure that there would be somebody able to talk with you and your son. Lakeside Dining is also having a special tailgate-themed lunch tomorrow (Monday the 15th) if you want to check that out.

I’m sure it’s not too late to attend UDays - might try that! It may be a bit superficial as far as any in-depth info, but everyone seems to be there, you can get questions answered if you ask the right person, and you’ll get a good general feeling for the place.

Thanks for everyones help. My husband and son are headed south as we speak! M2ck, my son will be majoring in the college of arts and sciences. Leaning toward history or political science. He was a page and then head page the following year for the Virginia House of Delegates and got the fever for politics. He hopes to attend Alabama’s Law school. We would really like to find out if the college would offer him any additional scholarship money. He has applied to UVA and waiting to hear on his acceptance, but his heart is set for Alabama. We just hope to be able to send him there.

People are so nice on campus. We dropped in to Ridgecrest South to see the model room the day after Capstone Day. The RA showed us around the dorm facilities. Students stopped and talked to us about classes, schedules, ec’s. Hope y’all have a great visit.

Thanks for everyones help! My son had a nice visit. Talked with Dr. Halliday in the College of Arts and Sciences for 2 hours!!! He really enjoyed the visit and got some great information. Thanks to momreads son who showed my son around the dorms and also was a wealth of information and tips! Everyone at Bama seems so nice and helpful! Hope it works out for my son. He is very impressed!!!

Glad to hear that the “spur of the moment” trip went well!
