improving act by 4 points

hi! i’ve only taken the ACT once, but I did study for it a lot. i took a practice diagnostic test around october 2016 and got a 25 and then studied and got a 30 composite on the real act in april 2017. (35E 31M 26R 28S)

i’m registered to take the june act, but i have not been studying one bit. i’ve been busy studying for ap tests, sat subject tests, school, etc. my goal score is a 34, but i don’t think i’ll be able to self prep enough to achieve that score. i am going to take the act a few more times in the fall, but i don’t want my score to drop during the june act.

i was looking into prepscholar and green test prep for structured online courses. i’ve scoured through CC, fb, and a ton of other sites, trying to see what people have said about these companies. there’s a lot of controversy, and i am torn. i’d only be spending $400-$500 for these prep classes, so i’m not really worried about the money. however, i would really like to see significant improvement. i am willing to put in the time after ap tests are over/during the summer and would really like to see a 4 point boost by the time september/october rolls around.

the areas i need the most improvement on are reading and science. are online test prep classes good for those subjects?

should i go for prepscholar or green test prep?

thanks to anybody that replies! i really appreciate it!

Personally, I think if you are willing to spend that money, you might get more out of a few sessions with a private tutor who can look at your scores and help pinpoint exactly what your areas of trouble are in a given section. That might be money better spent. If you do an online course you are going to have to wade through a lot of material that may not be relevant to you.

It’s probably too late, but I love Prepscholar!

My D1 took one of those classes and found it not really helpful, while doing practice tests over the summer got her a 4-5 points boost. My D2 just do practice by herself over the summer and got similar improvement. Both took ACT once and got their scores at or slightly better than their practice plateau score.
