I am registered for the October ACT. Wondering if ACT Online prep (from the ACT Company) or if Prepscholar’s is better. I know that Prepscholar is ten times more expensive, but I really want something personalized.
I’m at a 32 composite right now, and I would like to improve by 2-4 points.
Also if you have any suggestions for other programs that are online based and personalized I’d consider those as well. Thanks!
I heard the ACT online prep is only good for its practice tests. Prepscholar I’ve heard both good and bad about. Ive heard a lot of people say its good but then I’ve seen them do some sketchy things.
At least for me, I used PrepScholar for the February ACT and it was very challenging. The exercises are much more difficult than the actual exam. It really fine tunes your ability to move quickly and answer tricky questions. But it hardly raised my score because I wasn’t learning how to take the test. I was learning the skills necessary to be successful, but then I couldn’t apply them. In order to qualify for the money back you have to complete the entire course, which means mastery of 50 different skills. Honestly, unless you spend hours and hours doing it you won’t ever master all the skills. I would say it helped me in Science the most.
So I wouldn’t recommend it. It helps way more to just take your own practice tests from the The Real ACT and any other sources (I have a couple Princeton Review books). I progressed immensely from just doing individual sections of practice. I thoroughly reviewed my errors and personalized my own strategies. I raised my original score of 29 (using PrepScholar) to a 32 (just by doing practice) on the June ACT. And now I’m getting 34-35 on practice tests. I’m feeling very prepared without using the expensive prep course!
