Improving SAT math score?

I’m a rising senior, trying to retake the SAT in October.

Currently, I’m at a 2040 with both my Reading and Writing in the mid-to-high 700s…. but my math is stalled at a 590.

I’ve taken countless practice tests this summer, but I can’t seem to get past this obstacle. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I could improve?

It’s weird because I may be easily able to solve say number 20 and 16 in a section but will struggle with say #9.

Taking many practice tests is futile unless you analyze your mistakes – why are you getting the questions wrong? Careless errors? Don’t understand question/concept? The key to getting a high math SAT score is to review your mistakes, understanding why you got it wrong, and learn how to approach the question. What books are you currently using besides BB?

I’m just taking a class and taking practice tests at the moment. Any books you suggest in particular? Most of my mistakes are careless errors + a little weak on alg2.

I personally vouch for PWN the SAT book. The author also runs his own tumblr database in which he answers SAT questions. Most people vouch for Gruber’s to teach concepts and Dr. Chung’s 58 Tips (ridiculously hard book, however).
