@scrunchies If you had a low SAT score, as long as you have very good teacher recommendations and strong essays, you should be fine. I was worried about my SAT last year too for it was a little less than 1200, but hey I made it.
@JG0313 I’m currently an 8th grader applying to IMSA with a 1250 sat score, 660 math & 590 english. I know that my chances are getting in this year are slim, but I am hoping to recieve an 8th grade interview, which is a meeting with the admission counselor about something that you need to improve in the application. Do you think improving my SAT score can fall under this? Also, given that you are an IMSA student, do you think that I have a chance of receiving an 8th grade interview? Thanks
@birdie02 Thanks.
@theonesun333 As an 8th grade applicant, from what I know, they do expect good grades and high SAT scores just to make sure that you won’t struggle being here a year younger than usual. But you should always strive for improvement so in the case that you don’t get in this year, next year you can have a better chance to getting accepted. As for the 8th grade interviews, I don’t know much about it but I can try to ask around and let you know what I find.
@JG0313 Thanks for your insight!
If I don’t get accepted this year, I plan to appeal the decision (this is where the admission committee takes another look at your application and reconsiders you). How successful are the decision appeals? Do people who get rejected and appeal the decision, get in?
@theonesun333 I personally don’t know anyone who has appealed and got accepted. However, I think it would be in your best interest to not do so. The application committee accepts and rejects everyone for a reason. You should only appeal if you think that you were rejected for something severe that shouldn’t be a reason for rejection. At the same time you are ony in eight grade, so you still have the opportunity to apply next year. As you may know, the competition for an eight grader is very high so this may also play a role in whether or not you get accepted. Also, this may or may not be true but if you appeal it leaves a negative impression of the application committee. In all honesty, the only time I think someone should appeal is if they are a ninth grade applicant and if they think that they shouldn’t have been rejected. I hope this helps, but it is still up to you. Anyway, I hope that all of us get accepted.
I have a LOW SAT score(Due to a death really close to me in my family). However I had really good essays and participated in the PROMISE program. I’ve been on the deans list and high honor roll all middle school and my freshman year. I’ve been in AP science(Stanford science) and my MATH club placed gold in the nationals. Will the SAT score make me not get accepted?
@xxxtebbybearxxx I think you’ll be fine, especially if you let them know why your SAT scores weren’t great.
Oh and I went to a private school last year so the only 2 activities were basketball and cheerleading, which I also participated. And I also did 4 volunteer work. I just need reassurance because I’m so hung up on my SAT score.
@xxxtebbybearxxx Honestly, you’ll be fine, I think that quite a few people didn’t do well on the SAT, and that’s not the only thing they care about.
@just_try ok I try to email them.
@xxxtebbybearxxx I think you should be fine. My SAT score was 1110 and I made it in so as long as your essays and your teacher recommendations are good, you should be fine.
@xxxtebbybearxxx SAT’s are only 1/3 of your application, I think you should be fine.
@JG0313 Do you mind sharing your application stats? Thanks
Urrgggggggg…I’m sooooo nervous. Can’t believe that there less than 3 weeks till I get the results…this is soooo stressful, especially since I neeeeed this school because it is essentialy what I am…from what I know and have heard of from everyone, it is the perfect place for me, and the fact that I may not make it is scary…
Sorry for that short rant. It really is stressful checking in on the forum after being gone for a few weeks. I’m just really hoping that I make it…nerves = wrecked
Also, on a less dramatic note, I know that IMSA has an FRC robotics team, but do they also have a VRC team? VRC is more of my thing, and although I would join the FRC team, I would much prefer VRC due to many reasons. If IMSA doesn’t have one, how easy would it be to start a VRC club/team? Are there any requirements? Would they be willing to spend the ~4000 dollars it costs to establish a new team (including field costs, etc) in the name of science, engineering, and coding?
@mrcw42 I just looked on their website and I don’t think they do, but I’m not certain
@mrcw42 I totally feel you though about the nervousness

Thanks a lot! It’s nice to have a glimpse into how this all works.
