@just_try I looked at their website and I just wanted to confirm. Thanks
@mrcw42 no problem! And just relax, at this point there’s nothing we can do about it
From what I know, IMSA doesn’t have a VRC team. It would be great to create a club dedicated to VRC, but idk, budget is tight and the funding for FRC is mainly raised by outside sponsors.
Oof…well, if I get in, I know what my main goal will be…
@mrcw42 Even I am very nervous about decisions, we have like 12-15 days before they arrive! I just really hope I get an 8th grade interview this year.
@theonesun333 Me too. I really want to know their decision.
When people do find out, post if you got in. Then we can pm each other (through college confidential) and meet on testing day or orientation day
Or just at the sophomore move in day or something
No matter what the decision, post it here. Getting into IMSA is hard, but everyone here has worked hard to apply, so don’t feel ashamed if you don’t get in.
When I went to Promise, some of my tutors said that IMSA also looks for diversity and passion for math and science. Is that true?
@xxxtebbybearxxx IMSA does look for passion in math and science because that is the foundation to the academy. From what I’ve seen, IMSA also wants a diverse group of students in the academy; there was one essay question about diversity on the application and on an IMSA pamphlet I got it was talking about how diversity between students is beneficial.
@xxxtebbybearxxx It is mostly true. A way the selection committee are able to see your passion for math and science and to get to know you in through your essays.Hopefully the Promise tutors told you that the essay are very important because it is like your interview and your one opportunity to show who you are and demonstrate to them that choosing you to be part of the class of 2021 is the best option because it is what you are passion about. As for the diversity, they do look into accepting a diversity of students to give opportunities to everyone despite their race/ethnicity.
@xxxtebbybearxxx Well, I mean it’s called IMSA for a reason and the two middle letters stand for math and science, so yes. Also, I would assume they would want to have a diverse student population, so yes, they are looking for a diverse range of unique people.
I believe that most if not all students at IMSA are passionate in STEM in general, but some do have strengths in non-STEM stuff as well (I would not say that describes me, though… lmao).
@theonesun333 @just_try Agreed. No matter what, we should all post our stats, and if we get in, I would love to meet during placement tests. It would be nice to know some people beforehand…
@birdie02 I’m taking an acting class…does that count?
Not sure what you’re asking regarding “what counts,” but I personally would count it as non-STEM. It’s fine though, one of the most dedicated and friendly person I know at IMSA did acting at her hometown before she came to IMSA.
@mrcw42 Even though acting isn’t STEM related, I think that it’s good you included it in your application. It will show IMSA that you are even interested in things other then STEM. You are showing that you try many different things. If someone just put STEM activities, awards, and that was all they talked about in their essays, it tells IMSA that that person is very one dimensional.
Hello! I haven’t been on this forum in a while, but I am a current IMSA junior and feel free to message or @ me with questions! I don’t know much about the application decision process, but I can tell you about academics and life at IMSA in general.
One first piece of advice - some people here are talking about meeting up and how to contact each other, if you want to contact people outside of College Confidential it’s a good idea to get Facebook Messenger if you don’t already have it, Facebook is the default social media people here use to communicate about classes and extracurriculars.
