@0chotona1liensis what were your stats when you applied? Are from the Chicagoland area?
@0chotona1liensis hi! i remember seeing your name from other posts. How are the sports at IMSA like. Is it really competitive?
Sports aren’t a big thing at IMSA (if you saw that nationwide school ranking from last year it’s the only thing IMSA got a C for), our dance team is good but other than that I don’t know how difficult is is to get in because I’m not involved in sports personally.
For stats:
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Asian
Grade: 8
GPA: 4.0 (but middle school classes so nothing difficult really)
SAT: 2240 (800 math 770 english 670 writing)
Region: Chicagoland (northern suburbs)
EC:
Math Team
Science Olympiad
Art lessons
Swimming and Kung Fu (only through 7th grade)
School orchestra and private violin lessons
Awards:
Some from math team and scioly at regional level, 4th place state for science olympiad, ILMEA regional honor orchestra
High school science credit: Physical Science from Keystone online school, Algebra II in 8th grade
@0chotona1liensis Wow, your SAT scores are very impressive. But since you applied in 8th grade I bet it was very competitive. Did you take the SAT multiple times?
@Sasagi There are only about 11 schmen in the class of 2019, so yeah I think it was quite competitive. I did not take the SAT multiple times, but I used a prep book with questions and I took a couple of practice tests before my actual test.
@0chotona1liensis Yeah, that’s what I did as well, but I took the SAT twice. Only managed to get a superscore of 1470, LOL.
If you could guess, what would be an SAT score that would make you get invited to EXCEL?
Also - is EXCEL to catch up to the others, or to get more ahead?
@just_try it’s to catch up. https://www.imsa.edu/calendar/excel-program
@Sasagi thanks! @xxxtebbybearxxx I went on the link sasagi put up and they implied that to be invited to EXCEL you had to be in the lowest ~50 students who took the placement test, so I think the SAT score is mostly irrelevant
@just_try Thanks!
Also, does anyone have programs or activities to recommend if IMSA doesn’t accept me? Im
… just trying to plan ahead
@just_try EXCEL is mostly getting you prepared for IMSA by teaching you the fundamentals to not get behind when classes begin. I know a lot of people look at it as being behind everyone else, but if any of you get into EXCEL, it is nothing to be ashamed of. I am actually glad I was in EXCEL because when I actually started classes at IMSA, the beginning topics for some classes were a breeze because we had already learned the material during EXCEL.
One more week, any of you guys nervous?
@Sasagi I’m crazy nervous, I just need to know
@Sasagi I’m nervous but I pretty much know that I have a slim chance of getting in so…
Yeah me too, I know a kid who got a 800 in math and one kid got a 1500 overall. So I’m crazy nervous, I feel like this year there are so many people with such strong applications.
My only hope is that I’m able to get into the EXCEL program because they see the potential in me. I really didn’t have that much clubs to join because my school only had basketball and cheerleading, and then I see all those other people with so many awards…
@xxxtebbybearxxx Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. But just to let you know the EXCEL program is for those who were accepted but didn’t do so good on their placement test, beacause your skill level determines what classes you get put into.
yep. I’m nervous too
