I am worried that I might lose housing because I was assigned to a two-bedroom apartment at the Newell Apartments with my roommate but AFTER submitting the application and receiving a notification that we have been assigned to Newell, my roommate decided to back out the last minute. He said he hates Cook/Douglass and will not live there but I'm fine with it. Great. Now I have one empty room and no roommate, and I'm absolutely clueless what to do. However, I already picked the room and everything so pretty much everything is confirmed - except, my roommate who I decided to live with will not join (Says he's going to rent an apartment)

Does this mean I'm going to get a random roommate? Or will I lose housing and get placed somewhere else with a random roommate?

First of all, you will not lose housing. Choosing your room is binding and if your roommate backs out he will lose his deposit fee.

They will assign you a random roommate unless you are able to find someone to live their with you. If your roommate does cancel, talk to housing and tell them you have someone else who wants to live there. If you can’t find anyone, just let them assign a roommate. I don’t often hear stories of impossible roommates (although my son has one now, but he picked him!)

The other room will not remain empty: housing will assign it to people left on the wait list or incoming transfer students.

My son lived on C/D as a sophomore. The hardest campus to get to/from is Livi but that’s not even bad. It helps if you don’t have really early classes on other campuses, and if you don’t have to travel at rush hour (around 5pm when traffic is slow from C/D to Busch/Livi) or late at night >9pm, when the buses are more infrequent.
