In between class...

How many minutes do you have between each class? And what's your penalty for being late however many times?

At my HS, we have 6 minutes between each class. In some cases, this is entirely too much time, but mostly, it's tough to get to your next class by the time the bell rings. Our school is enormoussss [3500+ students, 200+ teachers, 25+ assistant principals lol, and our campus is just ridiculously big], so it takes some time to get from one end of the school to the other. Especially when you're going from one corner of the school on the second floor to the other end of the school in the basement... yeah. Also, just the sheer number of students walking the halls all at once slows you down + all the one way halls that re-route everyone.

Anyway, as "punishment" for being tardy:
1st-4th tardy gets a warning
5th = 2 hour Saturday school
6th = 4 hour Sat school
7th = 1 day ISS
8th = 2 day ISS and lose parking pass
9th = 3 day ISS
10th = Y0U L0SE! lol I don't know what happens then, probably you go to jail. ;]

Well, I think it's ridiculous, because this is for an entire year of schools, and we have 7 periods a day to get to on time, so that's 1260 chances to be late. If you're late just .00397% of the time, you get Saturday school!

Okay, so I'm sure your schools are much much worse. Post your stories!

my old school was pretty lax. We had five minutes between classes and sometimes it was plenty and other times not enough. It was mostly because our school was enormous (spread across a huge campus) with tons of buildings. Also, teachers at my school don't have designated classrooms, and instead there are a couple of staffrooms where they have their office. It's not uncommon to see the teacher late as well. Most teachers won't mind if you're 5 minutes late but most get pist after that. Some are REALLY lax and won't mind if you're 10 or 15 minutes late as long as you have a semi-legit excuse.

We have 5 or so minutes between each class, and whatever penalties we incur for tardiness are left up to the discretion of the teacher. Some teachers don't care if we're late, others will send us to the dean, etc.

If a teacher marks us absent, though, we automatically have to go to our dean, and if we lack a valid excuse, we usually get an hour of detention (called JUG in our school -- JUSTICE UNDER GOD haha). The detention can be served immediately after school or immediately before.

A valid excuse can be "I had to walk over from the other school" (we have our all-boys school and then a block or so away is an all-girls sister school -- some kids take classes there and have to walk between the two) or "I had to talk to the teacher (require confirmation from the teacher, though)."

We have 5 min. between classes.

I think the penalties are:
1-3 warning
detentions for each one pass 4

Some teachers don't care if you walk in within a minute of the bell, but my math teacher would give a tardy if we are standing at the door way (which is not in the room, he said) when the bell rings.

^Ahahahahhh

Ours also kind of depends on the teacher... supposedly there's a new rule this year that being "tardy" means not in the class room when the bell STARTS ringing. It used to be that you were fine until the bell STOPPED ringing. Huh. But those extra ~4 seconds matter :]

I have three minutes between each class. It's usually too much time. I can usually get to class with a minute to spare. But my school is really tiny. Most of the teachers don't care if you walk in a few seconds after the bell rings, but after that, they send people to the office. I think the third time late to a class requires a 30 minute detention, but I don't know what the punishment is after that. I've never been late to a class without a teacher's pass.

We have 4 minutes between each class. We have a relatively small school, but a big campus so it sucks having to go from one end of the school to the other.

The only time that I've really ever been late to a class was last week, actually. We had just finished our mid-morning break, and I sit roughly in the middle of the school ground, and my next class was way off on the second floor of a building in a far corner. Usually I make it with tons of time to spare, but JUST as I arrived, I remembered that I had brought lunch with me, and so had to jog back to the middle of the school to get my lunchbox. Luckily the teacher was late as well, and so didn't notice. :)

Do any of you use your lockers in between classrooms? I've found that they can be a real hassle, and so just carry all of my school supplies with me. I suppose that a situation wherein someone who walks at an average pace and needs to switch off stuff at a locker and is late to class is conceivable without any extraneous circumstances, but I can't imagine that it would occur very often...

^ I go to my locker before lunch to get books for the afternoon classes. I never used lockers between classes except once maybe.

We have five minutes; three tardies equals Saturday school, which is so intimidating--they tell you to bring a book and read. Wow. "We'll teach you a lesson by making you READ! Such sadistic punishment!"

Our Saturday school is MUCH different. We can't do ANYTHING! I mean.. seriously. You can't even look around, read, work on homework, doodle, ANYTHING. It's evil..
not that I know anything about Saturday school ;]

edit - Yeah, I use my locker alll the time. I always bring my lunch because I have an aversion to "school food" and stash it in my locker. I used to go in between basically every single class [last year, when it was in a good spot!], but now I go only... 2-3 times a day, because it's on a really inconvenient hall and only has 1-way halls connecting to it, so I have to walk in a huge circle to get to my locker.

Bwahahahaha, our detentions involve manual labor. They usually give us trash bags (to put the trash that we pick up in) or gum scrapers or something, and we have to work for an hour. Not too bad during our mid-70s winter months, but right now (when daytime temp is ~110), it's probably quite dreadful.

We have 6 minutes between each class,and I use my locker after every period since we can't carry around bookbags or use our lockers during lunch.

If you are late less than 10 minutes after the bell,you get a warning the first two times,get ISS 1 day,then 2 days etc,etc..but if you're late 10 minutes after the bell,you get one warning,then ISS,followed by 2 days ISS,then Saturday School cleanup and stuff.

4 minutes, and our campus is pretty big. Walking to and from classes is akin to the first half of track practice.

No big punishments, unless you're super late without an excuse.

5 Min - Mon, Wed, Friday Fall and Winter
2 Min - Tues, Thurs Fall and Winter (WE HAVE 4 FLOORS)
2 Min - ALL OF SPRING

Penalty:
1st - usually warning but supposed to get detention (7:00 am)
5 detentions = ISS
10 detentions = behavioral contract which if you break you get kicked out

at my school, we don't have a second bell (only one to dismiss us)

this is a blessing and a curse because some teachers give you about 4-5 minutes and understand if you will be late every other day b/c of a far away class. On the other hand, I had a computer teacher (farthest away from all the other rooms) who literally gave out a tardy if you were more than a MINUTE or two after the bell. I had to sprint because I was like four floors below, or ask the teacher beforehand to leave-which is ridiculous. Usually we'd try to band together and distract the teacher for the first few minutes of the class so she wouldn't notice the clock.

Lol, our detentions are like this too. Saturday school is basically the same as ISS, just bad in different ways... it's a lot shorter, but it's Saturday!!! haha.

We are a two-story, one building school. And ridiculously hard to get around. We have hallways that have stairways at both ends, or no stairways, or stairways at one end but not the other. You have to have a complicated battle-plan in order to be most efficient getting to class. It's horrid.

We have 3 minutes. Everyone who has 6 minutes: I ENVY YOU.
The first day, instead of bringing notebooks to class depending on what my schedule says, I will bring a piece of paper and a pen and write down what classes are far away, when I can get to my locker, etc.

Like I said, battle plan.

We have five minutes and my wonderful school put half the school in portables with the other half being as far away from the portables as possible. Also, the portables have two (two-person ramp) entrances (they have huge portable buildings that hold about 15 classes each). It usually takes a minute to two just to get out of the portables.

Last year, all our classes were inside and they gave us six minutes. Now, they stuck us further away and give us a minute less. I'll run and still get to some of my classes ten seconds before the bell rings.

My school spent thousands of dollars on tardy scanners which are really stupid. Teachers lock you out of the classes when the bell rings and you have to go find an AP with a scanner and they'll give you a little slip of paper, then you can go back to class. (It's a total waste of time and money, it takes like ten minutes to find an AP and go all the way back to class).

Punishments-
1st- warning
2nd- warning (parents get called)
3rd- detention
4th- detention
5th- ISS
6th- OSS
7th- OSS

I think my tardy policies depend on the class. I'm not sure.

I have 7 minutes between classes, but my school is also huge.
