@CaptainCal I really like Davis, because it is a community of its own; and I really enjoy the small town vibe that it gives off to me, since I am from a fairly small town; and the atmosphere is really comfortable and pleasant for me. It is something that I am fairly familiar with; and I don’t feel so overwhelmed. I also really like the campus a lot, and the nature around it. When I first walked on, I felt really, at home. The distance from my hometown is not too far from where I could commute home within a day, but just the right distance away from home. I’m not interested in anything really, but international relations. The subject area of international relations is something that heavily sparked my interest, and I like how you could focus on a specific area in Davis; in which I’d like to focus in Peace and Security and hopefully one day work for the United Nations.
@kittyucd UCD was actually my first choice until I visited the campus lol! I really liked the small town feel, but I was really disappointed with the architecture. Sounds lame, but I just felt uninspired by it, like I was at a big middle school. I really, really liked the CRD program, but I just couldn’t really see myself there. I’ve decided on Berkeley instead, but it sucks because I have to really tinker with the courses and programs at Berkeley and work a little harder to learn the same material I would have with the CRD major at Davis, but I also don’t feel like I will missing out on anything and that I have a lot to gain. Maybe one day we will meet each other at the UN! I want to take part in planning third world development projects for the UN or USAID. I’ll be pursuing a double major in Development Studies and Sociology at Berkeley, and they have a cool minor in Global Poverty and Practice I would like to take advantage of. I am also considering Political Economy instead of Sociology though because I think development is entirely contingent upon the personality and behavior of nation-states, and that’s essentially what PE deals with. And you can focus on an area of interest as well, geographically and disciplinarily speaking. You should really check out the PE major at Berkeley while you are still at the onset of your academic adventure. I feel like Berkeley also has the small town feel to it, except its like a congested small town with a lot of greenery.
@kittyucd that little town of Merced has a big honkin’ UC in it.
@lindyk8 I know there is a UC in it, thank you for your reply! Although the campus is nice and all, it really doesn’t appeal to me. I’d really like a change since I grew up in that area. Although I would save a ton of money attending there, it’s a little too close to home for me! Just a ten minute drive or so from where I am at currently.
@CaptainCal Wow, yes for sure! Hopefully we do get to cross paths in the future! I’ll be sure to wear a shirt that says CaptainCal on the first day of work if I do make it! (Just kidding) But I’ll have to look into that and check out Berkeley for myself and see for myself. Thank you very much for your time in responding to my posts.
@CaptainCal Were you a transfer student to Berkeley?
@kittyucd Haha great impression you would make on your first day! You’ll know who I am because I’ll be the guy that turns 180 degrees as soon as he sees you lol. You definitely should check out Berkeley. The campus alone is inspiring. Anything Poli Sci related I would say is best studied at UCB or UCLA, if we are talking strictly about the UC’s. I was accepted as a transfer to Berkeley for this Fall. Woo! Very stoked about that. I have my program plan already set and I prematurely enrolled for a couple classes during the summer sessions (against the conditions of admission!). We shall see what becomes of me. Even if my admission were to be rescinded (unlikely from what I hear), I still have UCLA as my backup!
@CaptainCal Well, I hope we do cross paths one day. Just for future reference: I’m about 5’6, human looking, and female. I’ll be sure to keep in contact through the messaging system on here if you do still get on when college starts- or maybe we can keep in contact through some other way, I’m not sure. I’m just happy to have found someone that has a similar career path as mine; as with aspirations. I plan on checking out Berkeley this summer, so I’m excited for that- maybe I’ll even see you! UCB is one of my top choices with Davis, as with UCLA. You’re making me excited even talking about this, but yeah. I was looking at the majors offered and it seems as though Davis is the only one that has the Int. Relations major, but I will definitely look into everything that you’re telling me. Also, congrats for getting into those schools! You must have done great at the community college.
