In general, what are recruiters/companies looking for? Help!

When businesses come to colleges to hire graduating students, what do they look at (other than GPA)

Do they want the same ECs what we did in high school (community service, clubs, etc.) or is it now more focused on previous internships/employment.

A lot of threads are emphasizing the importance of getting internships in college. Are these usually paid or unpaid? Also, should college counselors be able to help me with these or is it something people seek out by themselves?

I am currently a senior in high school and will probably attend Wharton next year. What should I be doing?

Thanks!!!

Internships within your field are probably the best thing you could look for. It doesn't really matter if it's paid or unpaid to the recruiter, I imagine, though for your own satisfaction getting a paid internship would probably be a bit more rewarding.
